Fast and safe DNS servers

Has anyone recently looked into the performance or whether their DNS providers have been recording your browsing data? I had been using OpenDNS because it was as fast as Google but it was not google :pac: However, I recently read that they are monetising it (VIP DNS = $20) and for some reason Cisco bought them, both of those make me suspicious.

So I spent 10 minutes pinging DNS servers noticed that Verisign now have public dns (http://www.verisign.com/en_US/innovation/public-dns/dns-cache-check/index.xhtml) and promise to not collect data. It turns out that it is 1ms faster than google or OpenDNS or indeed Vodafones own DNS.

So, what public dns are you guys using? anyone used the GRC DNS benchmark tool? (https://www.grc.com/dns/benchmark.htm)

Yes, used the tool. Its great (ICMP to your DNS server isnt indicative of response times).

Google tend to beat out Virgin Medias even though they're closer, but Ill probably spin up PFsense some time to cache it all.
