What in your opinions are the best 'bang for your buck' carbon road bikes out there at the minute? Do you make much of a saving by ordering directly from the manufacturer and cutting out the middle man? Thanks folks.

I have a Canyon road bike.
Mine is(was) fairly top end. I reckon I saved about 20% or so over it's equivalent in a bricks and mortar shop.

I also have a Planet X RB. They sometimes have great bargains.

Thanks Eamonnator. This one might be hard to beat? https://www.canyon.com/en/road/ultimate/2016/ultimate-cf-sl-7-0.html.

How much assembly is required I wonder?

That looks like very good value. Wheels are fairly basic, but you're pretty much getting them for nothing.

    Very little assembly is required.
You'll have to put on the front wheel, rotate the handlebars and tighten them and adjust the seat post. Thats more or less all you'll have to do. You'll get a basic torque wrench with the bike.

    Edit.
    That is amazing value.

Light Carbon frame. Full Ultegra with Vision Team 35 Wheels. Good value.

Only reason I didn't go for it, is the sloping top tube on smaller frame means just one bottle cage.

Very hard to beat Canyon or Rose. Planet X are also good, but I would mark them lower as have heard bad things about their customer service. I know first hand how good Rose are 😀

Rose Xeon CRS was pretty good value at €1999, they dropped that to €1699 for Ultegra, -however just checking now they are out of stock for 2017 frames - I am awaiting delivery on one week after next.
Merlin have those Sensas Giulia at a very good spec for €1598. They seem to get a good review not sure if anyone here can comment.
Also their own brand Nitro at €2200 is apparently the Ridley Helium as ridden by Lotto Soudal in World Tour.
