Hi - a friend had a meeting with their adoption agency and while the did provide information in relation to number of siblings the only information provided about the Mother was place of birth of the adoptee and the DOB (and some circumstancial information around the mother).

From looking at the trace guide the maiden name always seems to be pretty central in terms of being able to filter in the birth indexes.

So the question is, is a maiden name identifying or non identifying information?

Mods I got the answer by reading other threads ( which admittedly I should probably have done)

Can you please delete this thread

No need to delete it nelly - it's a good question for others starting their search.

Unfortunately, the mothers maiden name is identifying information.
And indeed it will be her own surname rather than maiden name as most often mothers of children given up for adoption were unmarried at the time of the child's birth.
