Hi everyone. My daughter has been complaining of pains in her knees last couple of weeks and they seem to be getting worse even tho she's stopped all forms of training. I'm looking for a physio (southside preferably) to bring her along to and let them see what they think is the issue. Any recommendations would be great.

    Function philosophy in Penrose wharf.
I couldn't recommend them highly enough. No connection bar being a patient.

Brian Fox on Kinsale Rd business park thing (beside Smyths) sorted out a dodgy back I had for years. Just by looking at the way I bent my knee!

It's a couple, Dearbhla and Dirk, I haven't used Dirk myself but he comes well recommended.
The usual €50 but you will get an hour of uninterrupted attention.

    I really wouldn't.

Physios are specialist health professionals. They deal with joints, muscles and all related. A GP will just refer you to a consultant who only has drugs or surgery at their disposal. That's a last resort imo.

I'm only speaking from personal experience since I'm assuming the OPs daughter is young. I'd normally agree but worth a visit and you could still go to the physio

Well she's 14 and never had issues before.. she does gymnastics, dance, cross country and camogie and never an issue.. she's resting 1 month now and still not getting better if anything it's getting worse

could be something as simple as growing pains, I wouldn't rule out a GP visit either, a lot of physios are heading down the same quackery road as a lot of these alternative therapies.

Hi....my daughter had the exact same issue a few years ago. I brought her to the GP who sent her for an x-ray. He diagnosed Osgood Schlatter syndrome.... it occurs when children do go through a growth spurt.
Rest, ice and time helped. She's back to sport, but still feels the odd twinge after a run.

    Good luck!

This is where a GP can be very worthwhile because I'd be fairly certain a physio would spend a few sessions on the usual stuff, deep tissue, manipulation etc before even considering an x-ray. They love their repeat sessions ;)

Clearly, you have an issue with physio therapists.
(perhaps I have an issue with GPs).
Please don't paint all physios with the same brush. The physio I've recommended is nothing like what you have suggested in your posts.

When I first saw her, she sent me to my GP for pain relief. On another occasion I went to her with a very inflamed toe. She wouldn't go near it. She didn't charge me and sent me to my GP.

When I was in a very bad place physically, repeat sessions were always suggested by me and I was always happy to pay for the care I got, compared to feeling robbed by my uncaring, lazy ex GP!

Maybe there are dodgy physios out there but I didn't recommend one of those!

I would recommend Karen Bourke in the Sirona Clinic in Douglas. She's helped me after surgery on both my shoulder (year and a half ago) and my knee (current). I wouldn't go to anyone else now. PM me if you want her number.

:D I don't have an issue with physios, I suppose after years of going to various ones I'm just extra wary of them, and GPs for that matter.

Perhaps I'm just cynical with age but I find stuff like yoga/pilates to be very effective in treating/preventing injuries but often in a world where we want instant gratification, the silver bullet, physios play a role for better or for worse.
