Also, i believe for the old Philips Iqon PC's to enter BIOS is was F2 or Del key at startup
    Edited..
    :D
Just saw above. Bios allows you to boot from CD or USB. (Windows XP Recovery Disk.)

Is this non deatructive system recovery (image above) not exactly what I need? I could be misunderstanding but it seems right. Leaves my files alone while resetting its own stuff.

As much as I hate to say it.....try both methods.....Firstly using the Windows disk then using the System restore mentioned above....... The way you can have your cake and eat it ....so to speak.

I would try the icontric method first.

    Whats a bios?

If you need to ask it's probably not safe for you to go there. In a nutshell its a low level software that talks directly to the computer hardware. What might be useful to you is that it can be used to change the boot order so you can boot from CD first, assuming your pc supports it.

I have a disk drive alright but most of that stuff goes right over my head when it comes to hardcore coding.

My gran just delivered me the holy water bottle which may help.

Try it again, by changing the boot order in BIOS.

To enter BIOS press F2 or DEL. One of them should work, then show the menu screen here.

    Do not need mouse.

Use arrow keys, down to Advanced BIOS Features
    See this menu
Then change first boot device to CDROM

    3. Press Enter and access BIOS setting screen
    4. Select First Boot Device or 1st Boot Device by up and down arrow keys
    5. Choose CD-ROM with up and down keys
    6. Press ESC back to BIOS setting screen
    7. Choose Save & Exit Setup with direction keys
    8. Press Y and Enter

Change First Boot device to CDROM by Pressing ENTER on First Boot Device [Floppy]

When you have done that. Save it and Exit (F10)
Then reboot PC with Windows XP CD inserted.
Follow this guide. Probably not essential, but is easy and will save any other unexpected issues that may arise.
