Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hello :)
I am looking for some information regarding registering my now three year old for primary school in Athlone. She will start in September 2018.
We are a non-religious family, therefore, our daughter has not been christened. I am aware that the nearest Educate Together is in Tullamore so am wondering if anybody can advise on which schools in Athlone are welcoming to non-religious families. Id especially love to hear from those who have enrolled their kids without a baptismal cert.
    Thanks in advance :)

    Hi,

I live in Athlone and also have a heathen 3 yr old! :) I have my kids names down for the Gaelscoil, it's a Catholic school but after a brief conversation with the Principal, it doesn't seem overly religious and they certainly had no issue with us not bring Catholic. They have two classes for each year and people put their kids on the list from babies so if it's something you're interested in, I advise contacting them asap.

The only other alternative for non-religious schooling, is the Athlone Mixed National School, it's Church of Ireland, a small school, well regarded, as far as I know they do minimal religion day to day. I don't think they have any issue enrolling non COI.

Few schools around the town are over subscribed so not being baptised shouldn't be an issue. So to be honest I think you just need to find a school local to you or that you like and enroll your child and opt them out of religion.
