    Hi,

Has it ever been considered to ask customers to submit readings in advance of bills being issued?

It would save a lot of messing of second bills, high or low totals etc.
If a % discount was offered to always submit a reading within 24hours of a text/app notification I'm sure a lot of people would do so.

Even start with customers using the SmartEnergy app....

    Hi Davy,

Thank you for getting in touch.

As ESB Networks read the meter for up to four of the six annual scheduled bills, customers are advised to send in a meter-reading only when they receive a bill that is estimated.

A customer meter-reading, sent in just before a scheduled bill is due to be issued, may be rejected by the system if the scheduled bill is pending release (even if it is estimated). Or if a meter-reading, sent in shortly before the scheduled bill's release, generates an ad hoc bill, this may not necessarily prevent the scheduled bill from being issued shortly afterwards. This will result in two bills in close succession (and the scheduled bill possibly being estimated).

If the customer can send in their meter-reading immediately upon receipt of an estimated scheduled bill, this estimated bill will be cancelled (if over-estimated) and replaced with the corrected bill. The due date will be two weeks from the corrected bill's date of issue.

If the bill is under-estimated, the customer has the option of paying the estimated bill by its due date, and then the correction being issued as an additional bill, which will be due for payment two weeks from its issue.

The fastest way to have a meter-reading processed is over the telephone or here on Social Media.

Let us know if you have any further queries.

    Best regards,
    Una

Hi Una Could you tell me how to submit Meter Reading by Social Media as you mentioned to Davy.  A friend lives in rented accommodation & has storage heating which can be very costly & an estimated bill is not ideal for them. Thanks Una for all the help

    Hi hillbloom,

Thank you for getting in touch.

We can take meter-readings by private message here on Boards.ie and our other Social Media channels (Facebook and Twitter).

Once the customer messages the relevant account number, name, address and the meter-reading and date it was noted, we will have the information required to input the reading.

If the customer would like information regarding the account, we require that they state they are the account-holder and their date of birth.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

    Regards,
    Una
