Nearly brilliant by Murray, weak by Toby. What would he have achieved by tackling Ioane after he caught the ball, challenge ffs

I never knew that law, if you choke tackle from a kick take it's not a turnover.

Any maul directly from a kick, yes

    Interesting, time for a brew

Great thinking by Murray. I hate when teams go for a dropgoal when they've got penalty advantage, makes no sense. Take a chance.

That was a beautiful kick from Murray, great thinking and unlucky it didn't pay off .

If he had watched the ball and not the player for that kick he may have nabbed that.

    Good man OF

Love this match so far. So great to get consistency at the breakdown.

Lions loss is totally inexcusable though, ABs are fit but they're a man short.

Only from an open play kick or pen

If Watson followed that kick quicker, he would have been there when it dropped down.

Bit lazy from Faletau there, jogged to challenge and attempted a tackle that would have no impact.

Joe Duffy used cars anything to Joe Duffy the radio guy ?

Or maybe Toby should have tried to challenge for the kick

SOB and Itoje the standouts for me so far. Warburton has done well too.

All Blacks decide to stay a man down in the forwards, in that weather....

Surely enough of a reason for the lions forwards to take that as a slight and lift their game.

A few passengers out there at the moment. Faletau I'm looking at you. George and tadhg need to get involved a bit more.

The breakdown is being controlled excellently so no excuses there.

Its certainly there for the taking if they can keep their discipline and so giving away silly pens, and infuriatingly most of those silly pens were Irish ones.

Yeah it was the wrong man in the right position.

Naholo looks poor under the high ball, almost as bad as Williams.

Delighted to hear McGeechan is alright.

For those not watching Sky, the hospital found his old NZ medical number from back when he toured with the Lions, which is mildly interesting enough for Sky to make a promo about next week I'm sure.

Preventing a 100m try... but with penalty advantage that's negated. Not sure why that was being called a genius kick. It's bread and butter stuff in that situation.

    half the penalties aren't
the ref has made some dumb calls and left some alone
our adjudicator is about as impatient as some of the players

the kick from Murray was just a hoof it and hope! Right decision, but not genius or anything!

    He's been very good
Consistent and clear, which is what everyone wants.
The fact he's reffing the breakdown immediately should be obvious to both teams.

Something I'm not sure I'd ever see.

PP have the Lions at -1.0 in the in-play betting. They think the Lions are favourites to beat NZ. In NZ. I need a lie down.

True, but passing it into a pod of 3 players usually a forward is just setting up more of the same

Jack McGrath has a big opportunity if/when he comes on. Scrums will be interesting as this half goes on

Yeah it's just the logical play with no time left and not difficult for a top player to execute.

Lion's defensive line a mile offside.

  • Registered Users Posts: 135 ✭✭laurie88

now that it's a bit drier
    BB needs to start running
I can imagine the subs will be the difference again for both

Odd that - was sure the maul penalty would have gone to the Lions there.

    Dirty dirty Murray :pac:

I think the Lions are happy to give away penalties now. Beauden having a shocker.

    Moronic from Murray.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

The repeated, soft penalties is incredibly frustrating.

    Yes

Aren't drop outs exclude from the kick rule so it should have been a lions scrum?

    edit:
    17.6 (h)
Scrum after a maul when catcher is held. If a player catches the ball direct from an opponent’s kick, except from a kick-off or a drop-out, and the player is immediately held by an opponent, a maul may form. Then if the maul remains stationary, stops moving forward for longer than 5 seconds, or if the ball becomes unplayable, and a scrum is ordered, the team of the ball catcher throws in the ball
