Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    This one has me stumped.

Came across this a while back and thought i'd try find out the details of it.
    • It's under one joule so legally not a firearm.
    • It fires salt so not a legally licenseable round/ammo/projectile (iow not lead pellets, not live ammo, no cartirdge, etc) It's the exact same as a paint ball marker.
    • In terms of the RKBA topic well as it's not a firearm, it's not subject to the same criteria as a firearm would be. IOW legally it'd be no different that keeping a cap gun or hurl.

The reason it has me stumped is i doubt anyone would be allowed to have one, but i cannot find a reason why it would not be allowed.

Just want to get ahead of the game here. I'm not bringing this up for RKBA as that topic is prohibited. I only mention it as it may be a factor, but the discussion of this topic is still prohibited.

Is pepper spray , irrespective of how it's delivered, not an offensive weapon here?

I thought pepper spray was banned outright?
    Great idea however!

    Spot on, both of ye.

I seen the salt markers and didn't think for minute about the pepper aspect. The 1990 offensive weapons act states :
any weapon of whatever description designed for the discharge of any noxious liquid, noxious gas, or other noxious thing, and also any ammunition (whether for any such weapon as aforesaid or for any other weapon) which contains or is designed or adapted to contain any noxious liquid, noxious gas, or other noxious thing
Noxious being harmful, poisonous or unpleasant. So a fart gun is out too:

Tear gas type guns and the like are very popular for home and self protection on the continent.

The "pistol" part of it and even the co2 cartridges are probably not firearms under the act, but the ammunition is right out under the "noxious" heading in section one, both the pepper spray and the tear gas versions. Same thing keeps tazers illegal here.

Pepper spray is not legal in Ireland.
