There are many things which are not allowed that would not directly impact on most people but we don't want them happening in our society. Abortion on demand is one of these things. It's already allowed in very limited circumstances which most people are ok with.

The majority of the public, in survey after survey, are not "ok with" the 8th amendment - in any case you can't excuse a gross violation of the rights of women by saying public opinion supports it.

Fingal County Council are certainly not competent to be making decisions about the most important piece of infrastructure on the island. They need to stick to badly designed cycle lanes and deciding on whether Mrs Murphy can have her kitchen extension.

It is happening in our society - the women are travelling abroad

Sweeping it under the carpet and pretending it's not happening

You must be very confident a referendum would pass then? I would not be so confident if I was you.

You have to laugh at comments like "gross violation of the rights of women", while killing an unborn child is the "right" being fought for.

Its unfortunate that they are travelling abroad but at least its not happening here and our tax money is not paying for it. Also not everyone can or will travel for it so it is at least an extra hurdle, allowing it here would mean far more abortions.

    Freudian slip there.

In seriousness I doubt they have the funding to support anything other than the usual parish activities these days, and possibly not even that.

OAPs throwing a few quid into a bucket won't cover it either.

Iona still have not registered with SIPO afaik, as lobbying organisations are required to do (except churches themselves )

It all stinks tbh and it should be remembered that American money had a big role in foisting this vile amendment on us in the first place.

their accounts are incredibly vague. They had a very healthy bank balance at the end of 2014. More than €300,000. I wonder how much of that they blew fighting the SSM referendum. Is David quinn their only employee?

the citizens assembly was very much for repealing it.

Maybe we should just ship all of our problem issues out of the state.

We can go back to being an innocent little Catholic utopia like the good old days.

We just have to hope no one sets up a back street abortion clinic again. It would be awful if the poor had the gall to bleed out on our nice city street's when it goes wrong.......

Those things exist BTW . But sure it's not our problem and at least our tax money isn't paying for it.

    Speak for yourself, please.

    Again, speak for yourself.

    ......

Its unfortunate that they are travelling abroad

It's needlessly increasing the health risk and it's "unfortunate" - lovely

    ...............

Also not everyone can or will travel for it so it is at least an extra hurdle, allowing it here would mean far more abortions.

So it's all ok then - it's only the less well-off women

    ...............

but at least its not happening here

And that is the whole thing - but at least it is not happening here

Send them away out of sight to get fixed up and they can come back when they are all pure again

Exactly. It's well enough that the hussies have to bankrupt themselves. Never mind that it takes time to get the money together so the foetus is further along and more developed than if they could access abortion here. The important thing is that poor women have to either put themselves under financial, emotional, and physical stress, or be forced to raise a child they can't afford and don't want.
