    Hi,
What's the procedure for closing a credit card account? The balance is zero.

    Thanks.

I fear they'll be looking for €30 off you, before you close it, to cover the Government Card Duty....

    Thanks AD.

Can it be closed online or over the phone?

    Hi clonagh,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

You can close your credit card account by either:
    • Calling our credit card customer service section on 0818 251 251 (or 00353 5677 57747 if you are abroad)
    • By popping into a branch of Bank of Ireland B
    • By sending in a signed written letter of request to:

      Bank of Ireland,
      Account Closures Team,
      3rd Floor Operations Centre,
      Cabinteely,
      Dublin 18.

We would also ask before closing your credit card that you:
    • Ensure your credit card balance is cleared in full.
    • Cancel any 3rd party direct debits/subscriptions directly with a retailer.
    • And to keep in mind that the Government Stamp Duty maybe charged upon closure.

*For more details on Government Stamp Duty can be found on www.revenue.ie

    Thanks again for your message,
    Darren.
