Ealing confirmed their semi final as April 21st 3pm kickoff and Jersey have confirmed their home semi v Leinster for same time and date

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

Would the home teams get to pick the time? Clever from Jersey if so kicking off 30 minutes before the Leinster seniors

  • Registered Users Posts: 311 ✭✭the perfect ten

Anyone know when Leinster A will be naming their team for the semi-final in Jersey?

Only 1 non irish or english side ever made final. 4 finals won by English and 4 by Irish sides.
Would be good if it ended with another Irish win.

Few irish/irish qualified involved for the other semi finalists.
Jerry Sexton, Conor Joyce and Mark Best start for Jersey.
Ex Leinster Sean McCarthy starts for Bedford
Shane O Leary and Piers O Connor start for Ealing

The Scottish in particular (not in it all in recent years) but also the Welsh don't seem to have taken it seriously.

Bristol didn't bother with it much this season despite having easily the biggest and strongest squad of all the Championship clubs.

No sponsor killed the competition. There were strong squads from the English sides in the beginning but they brought development/second string squads after a while as there wasnt anything for them to do more and the top sides were concentrating on league and trying for promotion now if there had been a sponsor and better prize money than maybe it would have been different
Scots took it seriously enough but were just poor...
Wouldnt say Welsh didnt take it seriously. Top sides like Pontypridd did anyway

It does leave the Championship sides with a minimum of 6 free weekends next season so I wonder if the RFU will come up with an alternative cup competition involving English sides below the Premiership e.g. Championship with National One.

Not looking good at half time.  The Jerseymen lead   17 - 3 into the second half and are beating us up in the pack.  (It's Treviso all over again!)       Ealing are leading Bedford 26 - 9 in the other semi.

    How wrong I was!

We scored 14 points in the last 4 minutes to win 29 - 27. :D

    Final V Ealing Trailfinders who strolled to a 36 - 16 win.

I'm hearing that the final might be played on Saturday 5 May rather than the following week. It is due to be confirmed later on today I believe.

    Final this weekend.
A Leinster win puts them top with most titles on their own as theyre currently joint top with Munster on two titles each

Will be forgotten about considering Bilbao but will be interesting to see side named.

    bar the 2nd row

In fairness, for a reserve team competition the second row is just fine

Maybe the real Mick Kearney might finally show up, Nagle is a lost cause though.

Not too sure about that, both rows are players with a number of caps with the senior team, for a reserves team playing against a Championship side who's rows consist of Premiership rejects and a couple of NZ players, it's more than adequate.

Sam Dickenson is the only standout player for Ealing out of their two rows.

Hopefully he sorts his form out
On his day he is solid 2nd Row option but whenever I've seen him recently he has looked pretty lethargic

When he first came back, I thought that he was our future at lock, seemed to be exactly what we needed. Since the injuries though, he’s never even come close to that. He still could regain that form, just not sure it will happen at Leinster.

they are capped at senior.. and? that doesnt make them any good.. kearney/nagle are the equivalent of premiership rejects

they are poor players and leinster need to replace them asap

He could do with a loan spell to give him a chance to get some proper gametime. Since he's been injured Ryan and Fardy came into the equation. And then he's competing with Molony and Nagle for a spot for the Pro14 games.

Any time he's played he's just looked sloppy and made silly errors.

Yellow cards killed Leinster, considering the yellow card that wasn't given in the Champions Cup final the one for a deliberate knock on looked very harsh. The Scrum was in a bit of trouble, also what has happened to Adam Byrne thought he might go looking for a bit more work

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,585 ✭✭✭irishfan9

the scrum was milled, no power, poor second row.

back three struggled under high ball resulting in a lot of knock ons and more scrums..

    rinse and repeat.

Byrne is a confidence player, he isn't playing with confidence at the moment.

Ealing were extremely strong in the scums and I thought the referee was quite generous to Leinster in the first half with some of the resets. In the second half the scrums were pretty much all one way traffic. It was a tribute to the Leinster defence that they didn't lose by more.

Leinster A looked rudderless. They are a very poor side. . Apart from a few individual displays they had little to show.

Because of Ealing's dominance in the scrum Leinster A were starved of good ball and the conditions - a bit like in Bilbao - made running rugby very difficult.

I feel you are being a bit harsh. They were up against a very strong Championship side in Ealing who were playing at home and who had a much more settled starting XV. They also played the conditions much better than Leinster A - especially after the interval when they stopped trying to play too much rugby in their own half. Ealing's box-kicking and contesting in the air was also top class.

    Jack Kelly?

Yeah, but all the back three did including Adam Byrne who is usually excellent.

Still Kelly progress to date has been disappointing.
