Watched most of that Georgia game and they're just a poor team. The only guy there who looks like a real talent is Doris. You've a fairly average bunch of players who don't look very well coached and that's what you get. The performance was absolutely riddled with errors and bad decision making.

Yea the coaching probably did not help. POC may not be a good coach, McNamara too. Throughout the 6 nations and the rwc, the team looked weak, indecisive and haphazard especially in defense.
Gotta believe that the mechanism and dynamics of the coaching team was substandard. Individuals looked good in some aspects but collectively they were a shambles.
A year in the academy will tell the true value of these players.

Think you can include Jack O'Sullivan and O'Toole in the good players list.

Jury is out on any of the backs to be honest with me, they just don't seem to be big enough/smart enough/quick enough.

having watched the 6 nations and JWC Ronan Kellegher was the standout player for me and should make rapid progress in the next year or 2. a shame he was injured during the 6 nations

The current u20 back line is the worst I've seen in some time

Not to mention four of five of the Irish players "helping" the referee to make decisions. Very annoying; was that courtesy of POC's coaching, I wonder? They'd all be far wiser to STFU and concentrate on their own games.

I only got around to watching the other game in our group last night - an absolute cracker with 11 tries that finished: France 46 - 29 South Africa.

France led 36 - 7 at half time but come close to throwing it away as the 'boks came back strongly in the last quarter.

    Bit harsh.

    It is a rubbish comment.

Firstly you seem more concerned on the other gsme and when if that's your basis for O Connells coaching????

There are legitimate gripes about the way we have come out etc but O Connell was renowned for his polite dealing with refs and how he approached the game

Maybe he can do some creative accounting to keep us in the competition.

Really excited by this - one of the most talented schools players I’ve seen and an excellent attackig threat. Of course I’m often wrong on these things, and there are still concerns about his size and kicking. The back line has also been very underwhelming this year. Glad he’s going anyway, after apparently being messed about a little

Need the pack to step up, not going anywhere unless they scrummage better and get the backs decent and quick ball. Front row under powered against the big guns will learn more after scotland game

Losing 17-14 and down to 14 men it seems

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,420 ✭✭✭✭Utopia Parkway

Ireland go from 14-3 up to 24-14 down. This is a bad U-20 side unfortunately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,967 ✭✭✭✭The Lost Sheep

24-14 now. Ireland down to 14. Penalty kicked to corner. Maul which sucked a lot of irish defenders in then scots brought it wide to score in far corner.

They did but scots were missing quite a few as premiership clubs didnt release a load of scots.

Tommy O Brien try on blindside off attacking 5m try.
Conversion about to be kicked and Byrne slots it but TMO comes in.
Foul play in process of scoring. nothing more.

    A good stuffing now. 45-24.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,967 ✭✭✭✭The Lost Sheep

    Game definitely over now.
43-24 conversion to come with 11 minutes to go and Doris binned for pulling down maul

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,190 ✭✭✭munsterlegend

It's a very poor Irish team. Last play of the day and the Irish winger kicks it rather than retaining possession! I think that sums it up.

  • Registered Users Posts: 636 ✭✭✭Chico Flores

    All over -45-29

Serious question over defensive structure - and everything else actually.

Confidence must be at an all time low.

Dear Lord, If Ireland lose to Japan will they be the only six nations side to be relegated bar Italy?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,248 ✭✭✭kingofthekong

If Ireland do get relegated the whole under age and development of players in this country needs to be looked at , the same with under age coaching

Slightly knee jerk.... It's two years since we got to final.

Last year underperformed but also developed Larmour, Nash etc

This year is a very poor vintage. It happens and questions for sure over the coaching. But all underage...

Does it? We have limited playing numbers due to exams, a handful of decent players injured also. I'd like to see a comparison between the age that players in other countries like England and Wales leave full time education and enter academies (full-time rugby programs). A lot of our players are only entering their first real full-time rugby program, with a lot being sub-academy players

I know it's a poor result, but I think the above reaction is a bit over the top. Our academies have shown to produce some really good talent, and the clubs system is also improving too.
