they haven't had decent coaches since the late 90's?

jesus winning that SCT and multiple JCT's must have been a fluke..

not to mention all the players they have developed.

I wouldn't rate any of the players they have developed. They strike me as a good upcoming second tier school not a Top 6 school who used to crush the Gonzagas and Gerards of this world. Times have changed and they are rising with the the tide of up and coming second tier schools coming through like Andrews and the likes - not the way I would have it.

The truth hurts sometimes. I wouldn't hold any hope of them doing well over the coming seasons barring a massive upscale in talent coming through.

I think Emmet McMahon is head SCT coach. Andy Skehan Director of Rugby.

They haven't had decent coaches since the late 90's IMO. Proper authoritarians who stamp their style of play on a team.

McMahon is about 30 years of age and Skehan the same. Skehan wasn't the best player in his day would have been on the thirds teams all the way up but McMahon was on the firsts.

Still you need a disciplinarian at SCT level to get the best out of rebellious teenagers not someone who is going to sing Kumbaya and be their best friend.

    hear hear,

bring back Frank Macken and Paul Barr.

Michaels have 10 potential future academy players in their starting side:

    1. Jack Boyle
    2. Lee Barron
    5. Ryan Baird
    6. Jody Booth
    7. Scott Penny
    8. Dan O'Donovan
    11. Jeff O'Loughlin
    13. David Ryan
    14. Andrew Smith
    15. Chris Cosgrave

Poor coaching going on there though.

some players i've heard good things on:

    Scott Barron(Blackrock/Prop)
    JJ Hession(St. Michaels/Backrow)
    Donough Lawlor(Newbridge/Backrow)
    Daniel Hawkshaw(Belvedere/Outhalf)
    Fionn Gibbons(Castelknock/Centre)

Thanks for this, was trying to leave the Blackrocks & St Michael’s of this world out but since you mentioned them... Michael’s as a 2nd row and backrow playing well(think both played JCT last year). A centre for Blackrock and a centre for Newbridge(think plays out half as well sometimes). Sorry don’t know names.

think the 2nd row is probably Stephen Woods, started last year for them.

i think Michael Moloney might be the Rock centre, played last year for them.

and Daniel Silke-Fetherston i think is the newbridge centre, open to correction though.

I'd be interested to know what school you represent - other than going around throwing out names and trying to manipulate public opinion - I think it would be a good idea to get that out there.

Here's a thought granny: maybe, just maybe, the gerards and gonzagas of this world are narrowing the gap between "2nd Tier" and "Top Tier" schools rugby. Your michaels comments are very funny indeed.

They are rising on a wave of sympathy from the Communists in Rock. Sure look isn't Conway starting for Ireland this weekend - talk about a fallen idol of schools rugby - he's nowhere near the standard for international rugby.

Does anybody know when the Leinster Senior Cup draw is? And if the final is going to be on the Monday of the bank holiday weekend (the 19th)?

schools senior cup draw not going to be made for a few weeks. It is never made until league is finished group stage as qualifiers from that have to be decided.

    Interesting league results today :

Pres Bray 3. Gonzaga 7 : have pres improved that much or are gonzaga not as strong as last year?

Roscrea 23. Andrews 16 again tight enough game

Pres have improved that much. A new coaching team and some very strong Junior teams in the past few years meant they were always going to be good if they could keep them playing beyond Juniors.

I see Templeogue were beaten by East Glendalough today in the McMullen cup. Glendalough only had 14 players and played through parts of the game with 12 players due to yellow cards and injuries. Great win for them

In fairness to Pres they are a much better unit this year as shown against Roscrea in particular but also against Gonzaga who are both good teams and playing well.

Game was very close but Pres didn't really threaten the try line too much but this will come. Good halfbacks and big forwards.

Gonzaga are sneaking in under the radar somewhat and produced a tough away win yesterday while missing up to 4/5 frontliners
