Well they’ve hardly moved to Mars

Let’s just hope we don’t have a case as in Tommy O’Briens year when there were underage internationals watching from the bench during the cup due to injuries.

That seems like there second team + Liam turner..? Rock not wanting to show their best hand in preseason

Update O’Brien out as well and there are 10 starters injured that’s just how it goes I suppose, shame but when you play the two other real competitors in the cup in two weeks you can probably expect a few injuries.

Anyone know if Gavin Jones is involved this year?

haven’t heard anything about him after making the squad as a 4th year last year

    Belvo 15 - 7 Rock
Result as expected considering the amount of injuries rock have.

Rock missing a lot of players, Donncha Mescal came on and made big impact.
Belvo were on top for most of the time game, scored a lovely try with 10 mins to go.

    Any word on these results?

Michaels won 30-21 with what was essentially a 2nds side

Belvedere were missing several players as well. Rock's seconds were playing Belvo at the same time and only fielded 4 subs; the injury crisis must be hitting them hard.

Fitzgibbon our with broken finger and could start 10 or wing and they’re all due to be back by Cup but we’ll have to see

    Probably there C's.

Which would make you wonder - if their players are rested and don't put the work in from 1st to 6th year why should they be given preference when selecting professional players as was the case for so long. Surely the players who have bled for the Irish jersey should be selected before the ones wrapped in cotton wool?
    wasn't their C's
They don't "rest" players though. Rotate them in games to give as many games in first xv but don't exactly wrap the players in cotton woll

    Both always made together.

you have to admit their friendly results are not indicative of their cup results. I think it is more than rotation more a cunning on behalf of their coaches

Seeing them play enough yeah its just rotation and giving kids games especially as they dont play in any other SCT/1st XV competitions.

Anyway 1A league quarters in leinster this week as well as semis in 1B.
Leagues all finishing up and isnt it just Leinster opening round draw to be made with rest having been made??

Remember a similar injury situation back when Blackrock last spent the summer on tour down to New Zealand.

Might be a coincidence or maybe players should be rested during the summer rather than playing games on tour.

They had little to no pre season so sufficient rest was gained I believe

    Shame thats the case.
Should be more to play for/focus on for all sides than just the cup

Some of the Connacht cups start tomorrow.
Jes Bish juniors playing in Laurel Park Newcastle probably tie of the day

Not insofar as trials are expected.

Lot to play for if it's an interpro/schools international.

I understand some schools don't put as much into producing players for trials

    Important to player development tho..

  • Registered Users Posts: 458 ✭✭Ayewserious

Some lesser known players who could have big cup campaigns
    Michael McGath ( rock)
    Donnacha mescal (rock)
    Ted Walsh (belvo
    John Martin ( clongowes)
    Dominic Henry Hayes (ternure)

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,585 ✭✭✭irishfan9

Not really talking about that tho..

When it comes down to how well blackrock will perform in the cup.. preseason games will have little bearing

They are an indicator tho - unless the team puts absolutely nothing into them like some schools we know. Cunning.

They arent.. just look at michaels.. they are always the form team based on preseason results..

In terms of favourite to win the cup they mean little

But they have produced a disproportionate amount of professionals.

Therefore it is an indicator. - maybe not for performance in the Cup but as to the health of rugby in that school.

I'm for results in the Cup being the be all and end all - I just think there's more to winning cups than keeping quiet for 6 years and then showing up on the day of your Cup matches at SCT.
