Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Castleknock: Benedict Culliton; Daire Turley, Jones Khan, Jamie McGaley (capt), Luke McMenamin; Cian Egenton, Louis McDonough (Thomas Cahill-Hannigan 65); Sean Picard (Matthew Holton 64), Stephen Quinn (Evan Chester 63), Stephen Callinan (Kieran McMenamin 60), Max Mellet, Daniel Waldron, Ciaran McCarrick, Adam Corcoran, Cian Clancy.

    Bold = capped by Leinster

Louis McDonagh at 9 for Knock is a 4th year, as is Stephen Callinan and Ciaran McCarrick.

no 4th year in Gerards team afaik.

Seems 3 big matches ( two of which were hugely physically challenging against Roscrea) within two weeks was just too much for knock: Gerards looked rested and ready: advantage was to gerards.

He was knocked out he shouldn't play rugby again for a month minimum
Why wouldn’t he be allowed play rugby for a month ? 23 days maybe yeah getting knocked out is treated no different to any other concussion symptoms

because brain injury in a teenager is a serious issue.. 23 days isn't long enough in my opinion.

The brain recovers quickly and he was will undergo 14 days of absolutely no exercise to let it recover and then ease into running and training drills for 2-3 days and back in contact after 23 .. it’s enouhh time and has been looked at by neurologists who have agreed the protocols are fine

He’d have to be out for 23 Days, he was out cold after collision for a good few minutes, hopefully he will be back for cup, but you just never know with rugby, as we all know every game is potentially your last.

Nice to have a neuro surgeon on the forum!

23 days is the obligatory gap for schools rugby. Then they follow return to play protocols etc and it can be longer if needed.

there is no straightforward medical test for concussion at present. Look at all the research going into it in American Football.

my point exactly, no one knows the long term consequences so in my opinion if a teenager is knock unconscious, extreme precautions should be taken when returning to contact.

    anyway back to rugby

Yes. So saying a month or any other timescale is pointless. The most important thing is to monitor the situation.

Speaking of Ethan Baxter he was very impressive for Leinster schools last september where he played both openside and hooker... long term as a hooker he is a very exciting prospect IMO.

What my current u18 leinster schools team would likely look like:

    1. Cian Duffy(Blackrock)
    2. Ethan Baxter(Gerards)
    3. Thomas Clarkson(Blackrock)
    4. Ryan Baird(Michaels)
    5. Cian Prendergast(Newbridge)
    6. Anthony Ryan(Clongowes)
    7. Jody Booth(Michaels)
    8. Ed Brennan(Blackrock)
    9. Ben Murphy(Pres Bray)
    10. Mick O'Gara(Pres Bray)
    11. Andrew Smith(Michaels)
    12. James Reynolds(CBC)
    13. Ross McInnes(Terenure)
    14. Tom Maher(Blackrock)
    15. Sam Dardis(Terenure)

He is unfortunately shadowed by his superb, hard to fault, teammate foley in the Leinster article and didn't get the credit due however he was also "top try scorer for his province" quote Tony ward

Roscrea 32 Temple Carrig 29 in a 10 try thriller junior league semi.
Thats means a Castleknock Roscrea final

Wondering about chances of Temple upsetting against Clongowes in the cup.

Hard to believe Roscrea made the final. They lost their first three league games losing badly to Pres Bray, CUS and Roscrea. Great turnaround. Temple Carrig will be kicking themselves. By all accounts Tempe Carrig were completely in control up to half time before imploding.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds for them. No pitches of their own and dependent on the use of the rugby club which is decent distance from the school. Hopefully they can keep it going.

Will they enter the Senior League next year? Hopefully they do as I fear St Fintan's might not be around based on their Junior results and with Andrews on the slide (already out of the Junior league this year) and CUS withdrawing for two years in a row the competition needs a few new sustainable schools.

Their 4th years winning a Godfrey last year and then this years crop getting to a semi is excellent progress, but you never know. Maybe entering 1B would be the way forward as they only will have 4th and 5th years.

Not that hard to believe. Roscrea unlike other schools wouldnt have done as much work as other schools early in the season considering their a boarding school and less likely to have done much work together over the season.
I dont see TC not having pitches of their own being an issue as it will be just like many schools in other sports as well as some other schools in Munster/Connacht and they play wherever possible and work well with the local rugby clubs.

Their 4th years from this year competed in a transition year league group with Clongowes, Roscrea and did quite well.
Entering 1B league next year probably would be best option for next year at senior level

A coach wont be announced anywhere officially until next summer unless its a schools coach and the school itself announce it.
No need to announce it now anyway

given his strong ties to Michaels it opens himself up to accusations of bias, but nature of schools rugby I guess with Smyth in charge of academy etc.

Many of those players came through under Greg McWilliams not Skehan and even at that the groundwork was laid for an influx of players to come through before McWilliams.

It's the result of years of work going back to the 70's 80's andf 90's and the development programmes in Michaels. To put Skehan through on the back of all that is presumptuous.

McWilliams hasn't been in school in 5+ years, he deserves huge credit but at this stage other coaches do too.

The 70s? St Michael's only had its first Leaving Certificate class in 1975. Before that and only since 1968 it only educated to Intermediate Cert (Junior Cert level). It was originally a feeder school for Blackrock.
