Great game and Rock strength in depth is hugely impressive...Knock got mauled in the first half and did well to turn only 7 behind...Great start to second half for Knock and at 20-20 a shock was on the cards....Thought Mc Galey at centre was superb and man of the match for me was Knock no 7 Adam Corcoran...immense in every tackle and 4 superb turnovers.....Turner for Rock was very strong and the bench made a big difference....On this display Rock will be hard to beat. The score was probably not an accurate representation of the game and the Knock lads should be prou of the the effort they put in today...

From the three games I’ve seen today was by far the most impressive display also coming back for Rock in second round are Liam McMahon, Cian Duffy and Ed Brennan

Presumably coming in for R Madigan, Mescal and Dixon?

    IMO....S. Madigan 15, Turner, 13, O' Brien 4, McGagh 8 and Fitzgibbon 23 for Rock

McGaley 12, Corcoran 7, Egenton 10, Clancy 8 and Mellett 4 for Castleknock...

Interesting coming from a rock man.

Would back that rock side against Michaels

I’m from a smaller school. Rock always trying to crush oppo is out of line.

If your school could do it they would and also it was far from a crushing if you watched the game

Again I watched all three games and rock were by far the best Belvo had a dodgy first game to say the least and Gonzaga had three penalties in the last five minutes that they did nothing with and Michaels looked shaky at the start of the Terenure game and the likes of Belvo would have punished that more.

Stop with this lark going on about rock being favourites Michaels have been hyping themselves up as favourites all year

michaels can hype themselves all they want.. as ive said earlier until michaels go amd do it.. it was rock or belvo and now with no hawkshaw its rock..

michales are starting three 4th years would be remarkable if they won the cup with 2 15 year olds in the front row

I hear this said a lot about the bigger schools and how it's out of hand for them to crush smaller teams. It's a cup competition, everyone is there on merit and plays on merit. It would be more embarrassing and insulting to a team who have worked hard to get there to suddenly have a team take the piss and ease off against you as they don't respect you as on opposition or view you as a worthy opponent. These kids are high level athletes and this idea of 'please think of the children' is more in line with their mums than the lads themselves.

Castleknock were good today according to a mate. 7 was best player on the pitch. Rock decent while still having gears to go up. Depth was telling. Score line certainly flattered Blackrock I'm told

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 3,585 ✭✭✭irishfan9

rocks depth is ridiculous.. no one else can match it

5th and 6th years won jct..

  • Registered Users Posts: 45 Fox90

Belvedere are nowhere near as strong as the last two years or as strong as people seem to think. A harder first round draw and they would be gone

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 2base231

Didn’t see the game today but is always the same Rock crush opposition and lay down marker.

They should listen to Tony Wards words today when he says winning at all costs is wrong. They have gotten in trouble in past for throwing their weight around.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,018 ✭✭✭Bridge93

From someone who's been at the three games:

Rock and Michaels starting teams are so close all fit. Rock maybe sneak it across the pitch. Rock bench stronger and would be the differentiator on paper. Belvo not in the same class on first viewing but hard to judge given the absentee list.

Bloke is a Michaels past pupil

A team has gotten in trouble for winning a rugby game by too much...

Could see it at much lower levels but not the premier cup competition in the provinces that feeds the pro game.

Rock also don't have that many huge scores to their name in recent years. Castleknock two years ago was big but not unusually so. The only abnormal ones I can remember were at jct level. Most striking senior one was the 2009 team beating Michaels by nearly 50

Another one added to the list, if they lose in the final they’ll blame the fact they only play on all weather pitches or awps as they call them.

Ridiculous haha, they’ve two 18 year olds on the bench as front row back up and pretty sure Barron is 16

Exactly it’s not as if they were forced to pick them ahead of the 6th years

Tony ward shines a light on the need for drug testing in schools cup, I say start today.

I would say Blackrock surely, even over Michaels. Blackrock have a full international front row and are starting two international centres. They also have great depth on the bench and size certainly on their side. Meanwhile Michaels have through their rigorous social media campaign, drastically over hyped a young-ish squad to go sweep clear and win the whole thing. The arrogance reeks awful from this team and I certainly hope it is their downfall and that the pressure hits them, as it usually does each year. Despite this, this Michaels side will certainly produce atleast 8/9 provincial pros and probably 5 internationals. Blackrock have been more discreet (as they always are, smart) and can feel less under pressure certainly coming into the next few rounds.

They don't though. They have a state of the art grass pitch too and they split games 50/50 pretty much.

Why do want them to be affected by pressure? It's under-19s schools rugby, bit harsh. Surely an overreaction to a school deciding to be active on social media?

    No he will be 16

He won’t though? He will be 17 100 per cent

Same age as Thomas Clarkson I might add

if he was 17 come march he'd have been overage for the junior cup last season.

No he wouldnt. If someone turns 17 in March they will have been underage for JCT under 16 last season.

Would’ve started the competition as a 15 year old finished as a 16... how is that overage ?

from jan 1st? thought it was later but could be wrong

either way one poster is claiming he will be 16 another 17. he is still a 4th year.. i dont see many other 4th years starting in the front row

No one forcing michaels to select fourth years they’ve fully capable 6th years amongst their ranks for the front row

who said they were forced to.. bit different between having a 6th year hooker who played for ireland last season and a 6th year hooker who cant beat out a 4th year.

michaels have selected their best team given playing resources so have blackrock.. blackrock have greater depth and therefore an older more physically developed squad.. as i said if michaels win the cup with two 4th years starting in the front row it will be a surprise, even if the 4th years are elite talents.

rock are favourites and have been since the start of the season.

Michaels have 12 Leinster reps in their squad , Rock have, what ? 5?

Michaels beat every team in Dublin including Rock IN Rock. Rock lost to Michaels, Zaga, Belvo and Leinster Clubs.

Michaels clearly favorites, Skehan said it himself

if the cup was given every season for leinster reps or preseason results then you might have a point.. its not though..

“ He would love to pick up a few more Senior and Junior Cups - and ranks the current senior team as likely favorites in 2018 “

Said in the Independant article regarding STMC rugby and referring to Andy Skehan , their director of rugby.

You can say all you like, but they’re favorites.

Never said the cup wasn’t given for it ? But 9 Times out of 10 its how the favorites for each year are selected.
