Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    We will find out today

well realistically one game won't prove it either way..

Kelly will be involved heavily with Leinster u20 this summer, McGiff won't make Leinster 19s IMO.

Kelly was dropped from Leinster last season but I might be wrong on that

Fancy Gerards over Fintans and Clongowes over KH.

Looking forward to seeing Foley vs Kelly on tv.

Kings Hospital will struggle today. Coming in as qualifiers against a team with high ambitions. Too big a step up.

    St. Gerard's beat St. Fintan's 23 : 7

Three tries to one. Fintan's scored first on 3 minutes. Gerard's then scored 23 points without reply (3 tries, 1 conv, 2 pens).

It was a public vote. And no point complaining about it now.

Well complaining about the public vote might ensure that it doesn't go to a public vote in the future.

While there are merits to showing some of the smaller schools, showing a game of that quality doesn't really promote the school boy game or the competition in the way that the St. Michaels v Terenure game would have.

Promote to who? It's not for anyone except the school boys themselves which is what schools competitions are about.

People voted for what was on. Next time get the Michaels and Terenure alumni to vote for it if that's whats wanted.

There is only one game in first round and its lucky enough that schools rugby games in leinster get the coverage it gets.
Its very hard to say certain games will be more exciting/better.
And schools rugby doesnt need to worry about promotion. It gets over promoted compared to other sports and other areas of underage rugby already

I can see where you come from on that, but I don't agree... to promote the school boy game, it makes sense to me to provide an opportunity for all who participate to be seen. Schools like Gerard's and Fintan's look forward to this competition every year as well, and form a vital part of the competition. The top schools will all have their opportunity as well - I am sure we will get to see Michael's, 'Rock etc in subsequent rounds - but I think that it is good that in the first round at least, the minnow's get a shout.

Perhaps this level of match is indeed representative of the school's game, just as much as the super athletes of larger schools. By showing this match, there will be some kids who feel that they too can have their 2 mins of fame or TV time... not just the 4 schools whose players may reach finals or who may get contracts to continue playing rugby at a higher level.

I will enjoy the matches between the bigger schools when they are on of course, but will also enjoy watching this game which for a change involved my old school.

Standout players for fintains were 8 Aidan o Kane, strong carrier and big hitter hadn't heard of him before and frank o dea. Gerard's 7 Baxter had a good game, lacked discipline at the breakdown though

Any standouts from the Clongowes game?

  • Registered Users Posts: 19 Union123

That game shouldn't have been televised

I disagree, televising a game with small rugby schools like fintains and Gerard's is the perfect incentive for younger players to stick at the game and further develop rugby in their schools

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,405 ✭✭✭FrannoFan

    Clongowes beat KH 19-21
Belvo beat gonzaga by a point
Castleknock put it up to rock for 45 mins

I wondered about the quality of the league this year. If there was a high standard of equally matched league teams or a big gulf. I think the results show there isn't an enormous gap and the quality across the competition is very good.

The 20's this year has a lot of good sides across prem1 and prem2 which shows lads are playing and raising the standard there after school.

All looks very positive from a leinster rugby perspective.
The usual teams will probably contest the final but good to see all the same.
