so what? What's a "serious player" btw?
And that's a great number playing.
Would be far more interested in what numbers from those schools years are still involved playing/coaching/reffing at any level in the sport

Why would that be more interesting? A school with 600ish students producing this many professionals is an amazing statistical trend and says much about the work St Michaels are doing. Similarly sized and resourced schools such as Castleknock are producing nothing like this.

There is a suggestion there that schools rugby causes a drop off in playing numbers. You will find that there is a similar rate of youths player fall off in clubs to adult rugby. Nobody ever asks to track these figures.

Also the amount of players who take up the game in Leinster secondary schools and then join a club afterwards is probably greater than the amount of kids who played in a club as a min, then in their school and subsequently stopped playing. If this is the case as I suspect then schools are a net contributor to the club game playing numbers.

Whether your playing professional or bective 3rds or coaching I still think great to be part of the game

because the number of people playing with bective 3rds are far more likely than the number of people joining an academy and playing professionally.

Why mention castleknock? They have excellent links with clubs like Barnhall, coolmine, navan and North Kildare as well as sending lads on to lansdowne.

They also have a few internationals and lads playing pro rugby.

Look at how few pro players belvo has produced this decade, it's hopefully changing now tho lead by Hughie.

    Blackrock SCT

    Upcoming games:
    Wellington College - 4th Nov
    RBAI - 11th Nov
    St. Michaels - 18th Nov
    Belvedere - 25th Nov
    Crescent - 2nd Dec
    Clongowes - 9th Dec
    Ballymena - 16th Dec
    Munchins - 28th Dec
    CBC Cork - 6th Jan
    Methody - 13th Jan

I will be interested to see how that game plays out as Wellington are considered one of the best school teams over here. Is it just the SCT playing, or are Blackrock sending a younger side too? I think an U16 squad possibly?

I think both the sct and jct team are playing.

Won't be able to get to it due to other fixtures, but I hope that Blackrock do well.

For obvious reasons its more interesting. Lots of schools have quite a few senior level teams from SCT to transition year to social sides but those numbers dont translate to adult level very well. Thats why looking at overall numbers who continue to play well after finishing school are far more interesting than the numbers who go on to play pro.
Schools are far from net contributor to numbers playing in club game considering the drop out rate from schools game is so high. And numbers dropping from youths rugby are very much tracked and competitions/events etc have been altered to help adress that drop out rate.

Ben still in school but likely go back to his home club in Nenagh(where he still trains all summer and in skills sessions with coaches from Nenagh) or Garryowen

Not really. Nenagh easily could be option as he's from there, brother playing on 1st xv(current 1st xv captain)
Nenagh could easily be a division 1 club next season

Crescent and Castletroy played in comp this morning. Crescent won by 50 points or so. Castletroy very poor. With change if Bowen shield to 18s castletroy don't have enough numbers to field both sct and Bowen shield at same time. Interesting to note that

For Bowen shield only a max of 5 U18s allowed and they can’t be A players, if the U18 plays twice for A team you’re no longer eligible for Bowen. So it’s really just U17 with a few B seniors.

Castletroy under fierce pressure to stay at A school standard, playing numbers low, many teachers no longer involved. For the most affluent part of the city it’s odd to see.

True, O'Donavans size gives him an advantage, very skilful aswell as he was once a back.

He was a back for one season really, started as a 2nd year for Michaels in the backrow.

Don't think there is a much of a height difference between Byron/O'Donovan.

Byron looks like he has put a bit of good bulk on too. O'Donovan also looks very large

Both are very good backrow prospects.

Bell unlikely to play cup, injured at the moment.
Gerard Hill will likely be in the second row, Harry Beggy will be at 6 not 7.
Interesting to note that 5 of the 8 players you included in that pack are in 5th year too.

backline will be something like this:
    9 Ted Walsh
    10 David Hawkshaw
    11 Sam Barry
    12 John Meagher
    13 Cailean Mulvaney
    14 Matt Grogan
    15 David lacey
