How to control earwigs in vegetable garden

I seem to be getting alot of earwig damage to lettuces this year - any suggestions on how to control this? Could it possibly be related to the fact that I have a pile of dried seaweed, the residue from the layer that I applied to the planting area last autumn, remaining in the garden? Thanks for any advice.
