You are ignoring the fact that there is a huge and wealthy catchment area outside the city, in counties limerick and Clare, which should be well able to support attractive events - and have done in the past. all cities have a poorer class who don't have 'extra' money to spend.

5km may keep students from socialising in the city during the day, but it's not going to stop them from attending a major event. If that was the case they'd never go to Molly's/Icon/The Library etc.

The 'poorer class' as you put it are always a lot quicker to put their hand in their pocket than the so called well off crowd in the more well to do areas of Limerick. Driving leased out 172 SUV's and living in good areas doesn't mean that these people are any good at paying their way. In fact some of these are the very same people that walked away owing millions and sent hard working suppliers out of business. I wouldn't be depending on them to be of much support to Limerick.

    What are you on about?

Wild air run happening in thomond park tomorrow Saturday. I hadn't seen it advertised anywhere and only heard about it by chance from someone.

You obviously haven't been listening to local radio recently then.

A new festival celebrating Irish links with New York is to take place in the city in October. I have to admit that I rolled my eyes and thought of a tacky 4th of July BBQ when I saw it mentioned but there's actually a very varied and interesting line-up.

You're right, I haven't. Anyways we went today and it was brilliant. Think 5k circuit with inflatables to break it up. Very enjoyable

just saw this in the leader today and it has me a bit worried. basically, CWB events are looking for 100k from the council (they got 5k already) to run an electronic and arts festival that would hopefully attract 30k people to the city at the start of March. while i would love for such a festival to be successful, the fact that the CWB was involved in the disastrous city of culture NYE opening night fills me with little confidence, as well as the fact that its a festival at the start of March. also 2 of the suggested acts are managed by the CWB (which the leader fails to mention). has anyone any positive news on CWB? am i being cynical or does anyone else think the council are being taken for a ride?
CWB Event Management are seeking financial support from councillors, with Paul saying that if they committed around €100,000 – half the budget – they would be able to meet the balance from ticket sales and other means.
On top of this, his presentation to the meeting outlined a plan to have concerts staged by Kormac, the Irish Chamber Orchestra and Le Galaxie.

You need a limerick promoter, otherwise the gigs will go where the most money is.
