I'm looking for a bike that could be used for commuting and that could also be used for MTB trails? Any suggestions

That really depends on what kind of MTB you'd be doing. A hard-tail with lockable front suspension would work for a commute but would be not very comfortable on lumpy tyres. Slick tyres would not work very well on the MTB trails so you'd probably want to change tyres between commute and MTB. That means a second set of wheels for ease of changing.

Yeah depends on how long the commute is also.
if its anything up to 20km a day total then any hard tail will be fine.
Depending on your budget or location you could could either buy a second hand hard tail from one of the mtb rentals at the trails like biking.ie or buy new.
if buying new make sure you have good quality disc brakes and a tough front suspension. After that it would depend on budget..
