Go to the bank the cheque was from and make sure you cancel the cheque and have them issue a new one.

we are in a urgent situation, is it a time taking process? does solicitor accept any other mode that is quicker and if we go bank for new cheque, will they issue straight away?

Was it a cheque or a bank draft?

Your bank should be able to issue a bank draft made payable to the solicitor/developer in a few minutes.

If you have gotten a draft already, why are you asking if it's a time taking process, it'll be the same as it was the first time, you just go in and cancel the first one and get a new one issued.

What other form of payment do you need? Get a new draft and bring it in, if it was acceptable the first time, it's acceptable the second time.

Incidentally, there is another simpler method of payment, electronic transfer, just ask the solicitor for an IBAN.

There are limits and most deposits would be higher.

Ah, cancel the first (lost) one and get a new one issued.

There's a limit (usually 5k?) on transfer that you can make via your online banking account. There's no limit on a SEPA transfer, and if you pay a priority fee you can have it transferred same day/next day (the free ones can take a couple of days). It does mean going to a branch and filling out a form, though.

If you are using a SEPA, make sure that it actually gets there when it's meant to get there.
