I know we are still in midst of TdF but world's this year may be interesting for Ireland.
    From another thread:

Someone mentioned elsewhere that this impacts size of team Ireland is allowed in world road race.
Last year I think we had two. How many will we have this year?

6 as it stands I believe.
Also according to cycling news course in Bergen has a 3k climb at 10% to finish.
So Dan is obviously a contender. How do we pick our 6?

From what I can see the finishing circuit has a short climb at 6% each lap and finishes on the flat

This from cycling news says there is an additional spur for the finish of men's elite race only.

    B. Nations ranked 11 to 20 in the UCI World Ranking by nations on 15 August 2017:
each nation may enter 6 riders to start (60 riders to start)

At the moment Ireland stands in 15th.

Has anyone ever held the rainbow jersey for 3 years?

    Not according to Wikipedia.

"Only six cyclists have successfully defended their title (three Belgians, two Italians and a Slovakian): Georges Ronsse (Belgium, 1928–29); Rik Van Steenbergen (Belgium, 1956–57); Rik Van Looy (Belgium, 1960–61); Gianni Bugno (Italy, 1991–92); Paolo Bettini (Italy, 2006–07) and Peter Sagan (Slovakia, 2015–16). Spaniard Alejandro Valverde has the most total medals by any one individual with six, although he has never won the rainbow jersey (2 silver 2003, 2005 and 4 bronze - 2006, 2012–14)."

No but I guess Sagan has to start this race as the favourite?

The UCI World rankings have been updated this morning and Ireland remain in 15th place (Nation Ranking). There is a nice gap of 633.75 points between ourselves and Switzerland in 16th place.

So all going according to plan we'll have 6 riders in the Men's Elite RR.

    What's the team...?
    Dan & Nico obviously.
The course doesn't look to suit Sam.
Deignan would be a fantastic domestique, Matt Brammeier would be pretty good also.
    Ryan Mullen?
Martyn Irvine? (he is currently recovering from a fractured hip)
    Conor Dunne?

The Tters have to be part of the 6 so that would make Ryan Mullen an automatic pick would it not.

    Do they?

The attached document is taken from the UCI website and it has a table that correlates the number of riders each National Federation may enter to start, and the number of riders to be registered for all individual events.
Although I'm not 100% sure what that exactly means :o

Last year Mullen and Bennett rode the RR, but Roche & Mullen rode the ITT.

Yes I see that now. I just didn't read it correctly.
Was it the Olympics where the Tters were part of the Road squad

TT participants had to start the road race in the Olympics, yes. Hence Dumoulin starting and climbing off after a few mins, just so he would be eligible to do the TT.

Is Eddie allowed go senior when he is still u/23

Is Ireland sending a team for the European Championships next week? We can enter 6 for that one too.

Your right, he can't. We should leave him in the u23 where he could medal in the next couple of years. Swap him out for Sam Bennett/Conor Dunne.

Times and riders for each event here http://www.cyclingireland.ie/cycling-news-item/team-announcement-european-road-cycling-championships-2017/5634

Eurosport have coverage on the player at least. Not sure for TV , I think I heard them mention on commentary on the events last weekend that they will cover the mens RR on Sunday

Ben literally started his TT as I'm typing this.

EDIT: Ben Walsh finished with a very respectable time of 41:04, current leader is at about 40:30 and most after coming home +41:30

Anna Turvey and Eileen Burns finished 19 and 29 earlier this morning. Very wet for both ladies and men out there today.

Michael O’Loughlin just finished with a top 5 time, Eddie is still out and was 2nd last to go.

Ryan Mullen is due out in the Elite later this afternoon around 2:30 our time.

Just saw the podium , delighted for him and only 4 seconds off the top spot.

The Irish jersey was quite a nice one I thought.

Eileen took a spill 16k in and had to have a bike change, awfully disappointing for her.

Only 3 started for us in the men's from the looks of the coverage. Looks to be Sam riding towards the front.

Sean McKenna is in a group of 25 or so trying to get back on to the main peloton, not sure why they got dropped but they are gaining down to 40 seconds from over 90 when live coverage started.
