Not really. Dunne and McKenna wouldn't have much of a hope of holding on when the racing really kicks off at the end. May as well get up the road to get their names out there and maybe even be there if another group bridges over.

But would they not have been better served keeping Roche/Martin out of the wind and getting food/bidons for them for the first few hours at least?

    When why select them??

Conor Dunne certainly would be useful for that!

Dan Martin is riding very near the front ...must be on a good day

But has no Dom I can see ....Mullen is further down the pack and Nico is at the back

The three lads are chilling at the back of the bunch.

If I was at the world's and had no chance of winning it then I'd want to be in the break too.

In the 2015 Worlds in Richmond I remember Conor Dunne spent the day in the break before pulling out at the end. That made sense at the time as Dunne was at the end of his contract with An Post, and he got a contract with JLT Condor shortly after.

But yeah, I don't get what they're doing.

All hell breaking loose, looks like Nico trying to chase on to the break

This is feckin insane racing. They'll all be shattered in about another 30k at this rate!

Still too far out for the break to last. Whenever this group is caught, if another group forms, that's the one you'd want to be in.

Martin, Roche, Mullen & Dunne are in the peloton.

But Mullen & Dunne are at the very back of the very large peloton.

Lots of names struggling at the back

The big guns know that the next 'selection' is the key moment of the race
So I hope Roche/Martin are close enough to the front when it happens.
Into 230km+ territory now. Team tactics start to disintegrate from here onwards- strongest will survive

Roche and Martin there ...but far down

They'll move up closer to the climb you'd hope

Looking at Bergen today makes me think that I'd love to see the Worlds in Cork incorporating Patrick's hill

    ~30 minutes to go!

Anyone want to call it now?

Dumoulin for me, just to do the fairytale win of being the ultimate world champion.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,263 ✭✭✭robyntmorton

Brian calling Peter Sagan as not even being in the peloton? That is surprising!

Edit: Kirby saying he is there. 111 on the timing screen from the last time through.

Corrected my post to reflect that. Maybe he is just being VERY anonymous.
