If one is out of pocket due to having to buy potable water during this latest Irish Water service failure what are the mechanics for reclaiming said expenses?

Hahaha. Do you claim expenses from Electric Ireland for generator petrol or cost of stamps from Eircom?

Anyone know where sells good sized water container things, that I could bring to the stations to get filled? All I got is 1.5 litre bottles which won't be fun to get a load of filled.

The update on Water.ie have cleared away all their previous updates and have this up now:

When was the last time any part of the country was out of water for this long?

In the big freeze of 2010, we were without water for over a week. We had to source our own. As it was winter, it was probably easier. Had to flush once a day only and visit family miles away for a shower.

Friday is now been mentioned as a possibility.

Chaos continues as water will now not be fully restored 'until Friday and into the weekend'

It was also intended to make that funding more transparent. You pay motor tax, rates, PAYE etc, that money could go anywhere(although motor tax should remain within transport infrastructure. You pay water charges that money is ring fenced for water infrastructure, the incoming money is accounted for and published and the expenditure is published and questioned if it appears extortionate.

But the amount being spent is still the same.
So where it comes from is irrelevant.
I would agree that how it is spent should be scrutinised. There's less available for infrastructure though when you have to take call centres and meters into account.
Are you saying that funding made available for water here from motor tax paye etc was being misappropriated or was not accounted for before Irish Water came along?
If so you should put some proof up.
    It's a serious allegation.

It is being worked on 24/7. The new insert is nearly a meter diameter.

Good to hear it's being worked on 24/7, the councillor on the radio didn't indicate as much. He also said the pipe was 600mm so mustn't be well informed.
Not many places in Ireland can roll steel that size.

Maybe so but with the seriousness of the problem I hope they looked further afield than Ireland for replacement spool piece or bespoke fabrication.

The pipe is 600 o/d but the new insert must go over it. The steel was rolled in Galway and delivered in the early hours dismorning.

Listening to the radio there. Rosehall would be an option. Why aren't they reopening it?

Is the pipe really down over 4meters in the ground?

I haven't been affected at all despite there being a water station outside where I live!

    Chaos? Bit of an overstatement.

Irish Water says on their site that Meath and Louth County Council have received 8000 5l and 10l foldable containers to distribute as they see fit. Wonder if they'll go door to door with them?

Thanks for this tip. Collapsible containers sounds like a neat idea, Didnt realise such a thing existed. Where do you get those, who sells them? I have been looking for something that can hold at least 10l, rather than messing around with 1l and 2l bottles.

Camping shops and also Halford's have this type, 15 litre for €6.

I'm affected by this, but we've been getting 3 hours of water every day so far, so could be worse.

I don't have any kids or OAPs with medical issues or the likes, so it's possible that I'm not quote falling into the bracket of 'most affected'. But i do feel like, aside from having to shower between certain hours, the unlimited water that is there for the 3 hours is sufficient for filling a few bottles and buckets to make tea and flush the toilet.

I'll probably have to delay washing the car or such, but those arent necessities anyway.

Irish Water and Louth County Council will today begin work on the specialist engineering solution to repair the burst water main supplying the Staleen Water Treatment Plant. The specially commissioned parts have arrived on site this morning and work will continue throughout the day to repair the pipe. Due to the fragile condition of the pipeline, repair work by Irish Water and Louth County Council must progress extremely carefully and it will be later on Wednesday before it is known if the repair has been successful.

    From Irish Waters website.

Anyone in Grange Rath got water? The site says the water should be back but it doesn't seem to be on for me.

As a heads up, there's also a bundle of 5l containers for free sitting beside the GR station, if anyone needs them.

    Grange Rath

Sorry, I abreivated cause I had already written the name once in the post already and was being lazy :o

As a follow up though, there's a large crowd there now so I'd say they won't last long. I'd imagine they've dropped a few off at other stations too.

Ahh, okay. Right, you mean the Grange Rath water station. My head was way off, i was thinking 'Garda Reserve' station for a start. Then i knew that didn't make sense. And I was trying to figure it out.

Of course, I realise how silly that sounds now that I type it. :p

Does anyone know if the fire hydrant network is still operational when the mains are off?

    Heads up boys and girls.

The pipe at Staleen has burst again. Irish Water have said there's enough water for two or three days, but that they've mobilized their crisis management team.

    http://www.thejournal.ie/water-burst-main-4045486-May2018/

They are already rolling out the tankers.

I know it says to conserve, but I've already whipped out the 10 bottles they gave us last time. Water pressure has already dropped here in Grange Rath
