Hi folks, noticed a grey 'fluffy' growth on my apple tree recently. Have done some googling and think it might be a lichen but not sure

    Anything to be worried about?

    that's not lichen - it's an insect, i think a scale insect.

Try spraying on some washing up liquid mixed with water.

It's a absolute nightmare to get rid of, my father's garden has been plagued by them.

Malathion or any other systemic insecticide will clear it but it must be systemic. Personally, I just put up with them as I don't want to use insecticides in my garden.
