    HI There,
I have bought a Honda 1.5l petrol, automatic Japanese import and can't get insurance.
Made few calls to insurance companies and brokers with no results.
Can't get insurance because is jap import.
I have full licence for over 20 years with NCB for over 10 years.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you currently hold a policy or are you looking to get a quote on this as a second vehicle?

    Hi

My current FBD doesn't want to hear about jap import.
Depends which option works, I can go for a policy as second car or
transfer my present policy to new company.
    Thanks

Your current insurer is obliged to transfer cover onto a new car.

They can pretty much charge what they want but they have to do it.

If I remember correctly there is a brokers in Sandyford that sorted out a couple of people in here with similar motors to you.

Try searching the forum for posts or someone else may have a better memory than me.

    Thanks Rod. I will.

As I said FBD doesn't insure jap imports as I was told over the phone. I 've been with them for over 10 years.

I've rung few brokers and ...surprise They couldn't give me a quote...
    It's like a cartel....

    Cheers,

Nice car, but as it doesn't have a European equivalent, it's a nightmare for insurers as repairs aren't nearly as straightforward or cheap as a European market car where spares are widely available.
    Try some brokers.

Yes lovely car... it looks like that...
    Tried brokers no luck...

The solution is the big companies...

Like said above they have to quote you. I brought in a toyota crown last year and spent a few weeks trying to get insurance sorted with aviva. They eventually put it down as a toyota soarer with a note on the policy. Id ring your insurer back up

Yes it was aviva I was with and they were obliged to quote me. They huffed and puffed over thr phone about it but eventually covered me on the car

We got ours (suzuki swift) insured with bank of ireland with no problem last year (might have changed since then), but worth a call. AXA might cover it as well.

You can try www.simplyinsure.ie as well, I know they cover jap imports.

Did you manage to insure the car? If yes, how much do you pay? Thank you
