Question about a Will

    Hi,
Just a question from a very baffled individual! My dad is in his 80s and is very distressed a.t.m. His sister passed away many months ago. He received a letter from a solicitor in Dublin saying that he is the Chief Beneficiary. i.e. he will inherit the proceeds from the sale of her property. All of this has been arranged, he has no 'work to do' in putting the house up for sale. Many months have passed and we have heard nothing from the solicitor but he heard recently that the potential buyers pulled out as there is a problem with the foundations. He heard this 'on the grapevine', not officially. AS you can understand, he is frustrated as nobody has made contact with him at all.
Should we contact the solicitor directly? He doesn't want to appear to be a money-grabber (which we certainly are not) but what would any of you advise? He would just like to know what is going on. But would a solicitor frown upon someone ringing like that? Any helpful advice would be SO gratefully received.

When you say he is the 'chief beneficiary', and that 'he will inherit the proceeds from the sale of her property' do you mean he has been left the biggest share of the house? Or is he the sole beneficiary of the house? If he is the sole beneficiary then why is the house being sold?

Who is the executor of the estate?

Contact the executor, not the solicitor

    Thanks for your reply.
He's very much in the dark, really. He has been told very little. You've mentioned something that I hadn't thought of - maybe there are other beneficiaries, and they will each receive differing amounts. He is her only sibling but perhaps she has considered others in her will. He doesn't care about the financial value as he's fortunately in a comfortable position, but he is paranoid that, in his words, 'someone might be fiddling the books'!(Not solicitors! But a potential buyer trying to get the house a more favourable price) It's very messy and we really don't know what to say or do to put his mind at ease.
The executor of the will is unwell at the moment and he doesn't want to put more stress on her but it may be the only solution, to ask her. Thanks for getting back to my query!

Well wouldnt the fact that the executor is unwell lead to the delays?
