Fair play to Hamilton, would've been easier to not swap back and he had the traffic issue.

Thought Ferrari handled that situation extremely well tbh. Kimi always had the pace to stay ahead over the Mercedes.

Nice one Seb, also great to see McClaren with a double points finish and Alonso with the fastest lap

Aye, without a mistake or lack of power ya can be 4 seconds a lap slower there and not get overtaken.

They did in the end, but it was looking a bit hairy there for a while!

And I think they screwed Kimi over once again. Though I'm sure it was in their heads that if Kimi streaked off into the sunset then Vettle would have been much more vulnerable to the Mercs, so Kimi was used as the defence line. I know its a team sport, but it sucked as a viewer.

Hamilton did something that Schumacher never would do, and I don't think Vettel would either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,409 ✭✭✭✭flazio

And if Vettel wins the championship by a tight margin at the end of the year Hamilton might regret doing that.

    This too shall pass.

How are the Hamilton haters going to cope now? Can they find some way to undermine him actually demonstrating that he can be a team player?! :D

Absolutely, fair play to him. Might regret it if it comes down to the wire though. Genuinely didn't think that it would happen.

Merc need to start playing the game soon or both championships will be gone.

Alonso sitting on a deckchair, on a mural of him sitting on a deckchair beneath the active podium celebrations is the image of the season so far!

Bottas will be reminded of this later in the season no doubt if Hamilton is the better bet for a driver title

Absolutely, but Hamilton also knew that not swapping back as he offered would cost him standing with bottas and the team.

I enjoyed it alot more than i expected. If it hadn't been for vettel's issue it would've been a boring comfortable 1-2 for ferrari. Hungary is usually way worse than this

Mercedes handled the switch pretty well considering the situation.

Exactly...I didn't expect Lewis to actually give the position back, fair play to him in this case; It was a very smart move and I have a feeling it will come handy to him further down the season, when the championship will be decided. It may very well be a case of "lose 3 points today, gain 7 in November" (if, say, they're 1-2 with Bottas ahead).

Absolutely stellar job by Kimi and he did seem in relatively good spirit at the end of the race; I hope there'll be the opportunity for a couple of victories for him before the season is over. Frankly, if I was Ferrari's team boss I wouldn't look anywhere else for the next season - as long as Raikkonen himself wants to continue; it's hard to find a replacement, you could get a younger guy that maybe is 2-3 tenths faster, but doesn't provide the same level of "steady hands and mind" when it really counts.

Similarly, Seb's job is not to be underestimated; Bringing a car with an issue like that to the finish line, and winning the race at it, is no small feature. I mean, on the main straight he had to keep the wheel something like 15 degrees to the left; Anyone who had to, knows how even driving a road car with the alignment out of whack, at paltry motorway speeds, can be quite a task; multiply that by a few orders of magnitude when it comes to racing and F1 in particular (e.g. turning in for corners becomes a guesswork, essentially), and still I'd say we would underestimate the difficulty of it all.

Great job by Di Resta, dropped in the car at the last second, not driving since 2013 - kept it off the wall and ran until the Williams broke down. Really, the team couldn't have asked anything more - Kimi, on the other hand, had something to say about mirrors use :)

Great to see Fernando in good spirits, the deck chair thing was comedy and a well-thought idea from Liberty, the FIA or whomever came up with it.

Last, Max Verstappen...how to single handedly ruin a race for your whole team. Given what happened in the race, Red Bull would have had a realistic chance at winning this one (we know how good are both Ricciardo and Verstappen at overtaking in unlikely places, it's not a given they'd have been stuck behind the Ferraris), and for sure could have been on the podium. Some will say he just had a "lock up", but these episodes are racking up for him - people would have thrown the kitchen sink at Maldonado (or lately Kvyat) for much less. This isn't an issue to be dealt with penalties (he incredibly got one, today), more something the team and his own people need to work out. He may be young, but he's not a rookie anymore.

    Sky's commentary is awful..
And as for the analysis, I thought Damon Hill was going to start crying and screaming at Toto in the post race interview over the swap back. Is there some way C4 can be crowdfunded to afford the full rights?!

I like Hulk as a driver but KMag is worth the entrance fee for his comments alone. It's funny enough but especially so when he topped it off with "honey"

Not a Hamilton fan, but credit where it's due for giving back the position. It's hard to pass there but in fairness he was a faster drive.

Damn shame Danny was taken out by Max.
It would have been more interesting with him in the mix up front.

Alonso is gas with his fastest lap at the end again, didn't he do that 2 or 3 weeks ago.Maybe he is unsure of the car(can't blame him) and gives it an all out test at the end.

Max was catching Bottas at some rate near the end and the shock in Hamiltons voice when told to keep going because of it.
"are we all under threat". Yes.

That video of Hulk and Mag Lol.

it was great to see alonso having a laugh today, it must be hard for such a driver to keep on smiling in that situation. completely agree with button, the sport has become very corporatised, i.e. bloody boring, too pc, to this and that. the human element of sport is probably the most important bit

The sport is gone very bad, even with Ricciardo's car on the side of the track today, they could have gotten it out of the firing line no problem and left it trackside.

Hill's Jordan in Canada 1999 being one example off the top of my head.

I'm quickly losing interest in F1.

...from 2019 onwards. Channel 4 will still have half live, half highlights next year (well 10/21 live) and EirSport will have access to Channel 4 session and race commentary live for all races next year.

    This too shall pass.
