    Hi
Im looking to sign up for a home security system in Galway city.

Every company seems to have a slightly different service.

Network security.ie are giving a free Pir camera if we sign up in July- only one day left

Night guard are local but no camera unless we pay extra...but they say the lasers are sufficient.

Any advice please.. its a minefield

Would be looking for affordable monitoring, but where the guards will come out if there is a problem, not to wait on friends who have been contacted to go confirm a break in.

    Please help!
    Thanks

Shop around. The cheaper options will generally cost you more in the long run as you will be tied into monitoring /maintenance contracts.
Spend your money on decent system then look for monitoring /maintenance on short or rolling contract. You will also have the option then to shop around in the future if you see a better value offer

The system Network use is tied to that company meaning should you require a service you need them to do it.

As a general rule I would say the cheaper the price the more you look into it.
Systems that are rented or locked to one installer are going to cost you much more in the long run. Suppose you pay €599 , €699 or whatever this weeks offer is. What happens down the line when there's problems?
1 You are going to be paying (and maybe tied to) ongoing payments to cover this or
2 You are going to pay a hefty call out charge & hefty price for equipment because they know you can't go to anyone else.
I have heard horror stories of €220 call out fee & €70 for 1 battery. Thats the money you saved on installation gone or the first problem.

Network don't rent out systems but you would be tied to them for future services and repairs.

You can forget about guards going to check it out if the alarm goes off.
They won't attend unless there's a key holder present.

The Guards need access to a premises, that's why key holders are required to attend.

They may attend alarms/confirmed alarms at their descrection.

Ill just leave this here, 1.7 is of particular interest.

That is the policy. They may still attend any alarm call at their descrection.

    It certainly is.

Reminds me of a customer not so long ago who arrived at his premises after receiving an alarm call. The Armed Rapid Response unit were in the area and took the initiative to take a look rather than waiting for keyholder response.
He arrived just in time to see 3 terrified teenagers being driven off.
I think the best way to put it is the Guards can respond without keyholder response but they are not obliged to or don't have to.

    Hi all of you
Thanks for all the information and discussion on here. I think will do as advised and spend the money now on a decent system and take monitoring onwards from there.
    Go raibh mile

In most cases you get what you pay for so shopping around is always the best option.
