    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

    Generous offer, Soarer!

Probably a good idea to have a granny cable permanently though. Might come in ever so handy. Think if you're stuck too far away from a normal charging point. If you're in a B&B or rented house, visiting friends or family far away, etc. It will literally charge at any of the 100 million sockets we have in this country. Don't UK cars come with both EVSE and granny cable as standard? Another reason to go for an imported car over an Irish one.

    +1
I keep mine in the Nissan bag connected to the hook in the boot as it left there. You never know when you might just need it.

No, only some. Primarily the ones with the 6.6kW chargers but its a bit hit and miss and sometimes dealers swap them between cars.

If you're around Cork, you could maybe borrow mine for a few weeks.

Thanks for the offer, very kind of you!

I'll keep my eyes peeled. That place in Kildare claims to have genuine granny cable too for € 399. Seems mental for a charger cable!!

I've got 2 Leafs and 2 genuine granny cables. I'll let one go for €300 if you're not able to find a genuine one.

Came across this just now. Seems like a lot of car for the price but would be kinda nervous going private like that. Same seller has their previous and newer car for sale at same time. Is the consensus that there's way less risk with private EV purchases as so much less to go wrong on/in these cars?

Mileage is 2,400km and it is Tekna. It doesn't make sense as the buyer would have to pay VRT on the car to bring it in...just sounds a little strange, on ad for older car he does mention he has bought newer version....

Not cheap at all. For that money I would nearly expect a 30kWh Leaf.

Very cheapest 2016 Tekna with <5,000 miles on Autotrader is £ 14,000 = € 15,500 excl the cost of getting it here. I checked the VRT calculator and no matter what mileage I put in and November 2016 it's still saying € 0 VRT??

Yup, the VRT due is less than the €5K EV credit so just bring it in for the appointment and you'll be out the door with no charge.

What you need to do to avoid VAT is run up 6000km on the odometer before the VRT appointment.

Ok but low mileage like that would still have VAT. Is it safe to say that a UK import that has managed to get Irish plates on it has 100% definitely paid the VAT? i.e. can people over-state the mileage or is it checked somewhere?

It's checked at the VRT appointment, so before it can get plates.

So today's update is that the diesel is gone - I'm committed! Fortunately I don't absolutely need to have a car until end of this month, so I have a bit of time to find the right deal. So eyes are peeled for a grey or silver Tekna! Kinda looking at all options. Have engaged people in UK who could deliver or I could collect from. Equally am looking at the Irish option too, and trying to weigh up ease/comfort of sourcing locally vs the definite saving of DIY from UK. I had started out feeling certain that I wanted to keep total spend <€ 12K but now I'm wondering if I can get a relatively new one for not a whole lot more given that a new one is on the way and I'm ok with 24kW battery.

If you are looking to spend a bit more you should jump to the 30kWh and that gives you extra range comfort. Battery degradation over the next 10yrs should be fine assuming you believe the 24kWh is already enough.

    £14k for a 161 30kWh should be achievable.

    Drumroll.....
So I took the plunge and collected my 2015 silver Leaf Tekna this afternoon from Athlone! :) Drove it back to Bray, stopping at Applegreen Enfield for my first top-up charge (still had 60km left, but not quite enough for the full journey) and again at Tesco Bray as I don't have charging at home yet. Absolutely loving the experience so far, and glad to be part of the ever-growing club! Set the speed limiter to 100km/h for most of the journey and just sat back and enjoyed it!

    What I love:
    1) So smooth and nice to drive
    2) When you turn off Eco there really is a lot of power there, even at higher speeds
    3) Stereo sounds really good! (not that I'm blasting out music!)
    4) So many gadgets (and that's before I get it "online") - I presume the online service will require me registering with Nissan Connect fully?
    5) Charging was quick, easy and hassle-free
    6) It's just so quiet at slow speeds

I'm an immediate instant convert! Nissan Connect wouldn't recognise my VIN to register, but I guess that might take a few days to come through? Happy driving times ahead (until my wife "discovers" the driving experience and no doubt robs it from me!). Impressed with the ESB App showing all the charge points and their status.

The previous owner needs to log in and de-register the car from his account.
Assuming the previous owner can log in etc

When I bought mine in the uk, the owner had never logged in once, but the dealer had set him up on day 1 and he didn't know passwords etc

In this case, I had to go through nissan in the uk. If you bought locally, ask the previous owner if h can log in.

    Well done g0g.

You'll understand now why owners can be relatively forceful when someone is on the fence about switching to EV. Once you do it, you wonder why it took you so long in the first place!

    Well wear.

Thanks, yeah I can see myself being an immediate big advocate to others!

Yes, good reminder, big thank you to all on here for the advice in general, and hopefully this thread might help others thinking of taking the plunge! First day commuting today was a joy. I left the radio off to enjoy the love silence for part of the drive!

Got onto the UK help service today about "assigning" the car to me. I'm still a bit unclear on one thing. Does the uploading of data and updating of charge points etc come from the SIM I believe is in the car? Or is the car's internet interaction via your phone once you get a log-in for the app? Loads of options in the maps menu seem to trigger the car to connect to a service that it won't/can't connect to!

Yes, it uses the SIM to update the maps.
You need to get that assignment issue fixed.

Congrats on your purchase and well wear. Delighted you've seen through the whining that goes on here from non-EV owners which puts people off them, when they have no real world experience of EVs themselves. You obviously see the huge advantages at this early stage - it only gets better and better!
