Waiting for TC number and signed contract

    Hi all,

I'm a PP NQT and am waiting for college to transfer results to TC so I can get my TC number.

I've signed a fixed term contract for the year, and school is aware that I don't have a TC number yet. I've signed the DES salary form, and school sec. said I can call DES when I have my number. Vetting is in process too. Literally just waiting for college to play ball and release the transcripts to TC.

My question is: if I don't have my TC number by the time school starts, will I get back pay for the hours worked before TC number is allocated?

Also, could the school renege on the contract in absence of the TC number before school starts? One of my long qualified friends said it's common for NQTs to start without TC number and no one bats an eyelid. Just want to check.

Interested to hear your thoughts / experiences.

And yes...I am walking on air and delighted to have a job...it's all paid off! 😊

    Thank you!

Firstly a huge congratulations on getting a fixed term contract in your NQT year. You could check with TC or DOE ... probably payroll in the DOE but I think you would only be paid for the first five days because a school can employ an unregistered teacher for a max of five days. Don't despair though, the school may pay you for a few weeks and if the worst comes to the worst and as mad as it seems, I would still work and wait for my number as a few weeks (hopefully not worked for free) would be better than losing the position and subbing for the year. If you've applied for unemployment assistance, there may be help available. I would also ring/email both the college/TC to see where your application is. You may be incredibly lucky and someone might hurry your application as you have a position for the year.

Thank you. I'll play phone tag tomorrow and see if I can move things along.

I would work for free gladly...going from 10 years in corporate sector to my dream job as a teacher is worth it!

I would do it as well if I were in your position. Let's hope it won't come to that.
