Ransomware , hacking , fraud etc

For a long time porn sites have been a notorious source of malware etc, but thats really no longer the case. Not the main stream sites at least as it doesn't fit the business model. I'm not going to say no porn or livestream site serve up malware, but the larger sites work to keep their sites malware free.

Malware generally but not exclusively come from adspace thats been sold to a malware distributor. Any site that sells adspace is at risk.

As for fraud, again, stick to the established sites. They make their money from doing what it says on the tin. Pop-up sites are generally where the pitfalls are. For example I could set up a site today and give you exclusive access to all the content for a one off payment of 29.99. A thousand people sign up and I make 30k. As it dawns on everyone that there is no more content, it was just the front page, I disappear into the ether.

As for hacking, you'll need to be more specific, but I wouldn't be too worried. Setting up a site like my example above is quite a bit of work, but for a potential 30k pay out, well worth it. If I just want to hack a thousand machines, there are much easier ways.

Thanks for the very informative reply much appreciated. As Livejasmin is a pop up , I presume it is a red flag site?

LiveJasmin has been around for donkeys years. By pop-up site i mean a site thats just recently been created. Unless its owned by one of the mainstream established content providers its hard to know whether youll pay your money and get a show or pay your money and nothing happens.

The established ones are the worst. Glorified pimps, they have no scruples and will go to any lengths to spook someone. They have the money and the reach, so there's no chance of any comeback.

    I'm confused by this reply.

I think your a little naive , if you do the research you'll find an alarming amount of people who have been badly burned by sites like these, everything you say or do will be used against you later on.

I'm confused because you came to the forum looking for information on these sites and then put a reply like you are very familiar with them and now have accused me of being naive.

Even the language of the previous posts seems different.

    Reporting to admins for advice.

I am by no means familiar with them , just curious after seeing a report on the top visited websites in Ireland and it peaked my attention. Found it strange, and looked for information here. End of

in fairness I would have taken that response as being a statement based on familiarity or experience as opposed to a random opinion. Also, Denartha is responding to your posts and being helpful so to call them "Naive" is a bit off - they aren't arguing with you, they are responding to your request for an opinion - which is you doing some research so to direct them to do so is off.

this is, first and foremost, a discussion site. if you cannot do that without going on attack mode then I would suggest you refrain from asking questions.

Denartha's point about adware/fraud is valid but there is also the fact that people who get scammed by a porn site are less likely to report it due to the stigma or perhaps they are not meant to be on "that kind" of website for one reason or another which makes them high value targets. (look up localised scareware)

Reputation is important for these sites. After all, many would require the user to enable a script or allow a plugin to install/run which requires a level of trust with the provider. Is the traffic one way? is the user's webcam/mic activated? is it deactivated once the site is closed? are temp files cleaned up properly? does the plugin have permission to any other data on the system?
