Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

And done. Well done The Town. When's the final? Its scandalous how hard it is to try to get information on certain sporting events in your own country. The FAI website is an utter sack of sh*te with regards to its own native competitions.

Usually the first Sunday in November. So 05/11/2017 would be my guess.

What was Bradley upto on that throw in? The stream wasn't great but did he stop Dundalk taking that throw? Rovers were well on top at that time and that scuffle took the air out of them a fair bit after.

  • Registered Users Posts: 314 ✭✭spoonerhead

That was enthralling.... Pitty I won’t be cheering on Rovers on the 5th of November. But fair play Dundalk, best wishes for the final.

Magnificent header from Stephen O'Donnell. Dundalk deserved their win, Rovers don't have much of a goal threat.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,468 ✭✭✭White Horse

Now that was a cup tie.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

    O'Donnell was superb last night.

I thought Rovers were a bit unlucky Chechinksi at fault badly for the 1st 2 goals. Finn was superb as well. Bolger & McAlister being unavailable was a huge blow Lopez was lost in CM. Dundalk are still a bit off what they were the last 2 years. Duffy played well & McGrath grew into the game but Connolly was very poor.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,254 ✭✭✭joeysoap

I don't think Connolly has slotted into the set up yet either. Dundalk nearly have to play a long ball for him to run onto. Not their style.

I think McGrath will be the key player going forward, I can see him being a Finn type player in a couple of years.

    * all 6 goals were scored by players who were Dundalk players last year.

Any info on tickets? Christ it's like trying to buy thickets for a back alley bare knuckle fight. Went on Ticketmaster and they only have info on last years final. The fai website is useless also.

Nothing from Cork City yet either and to my knowledge Dundalk haven't announced anything. Id imagine it'll be today or tomorrow.

From my experience, Ticketmaster will allocate Dundalk and Cork ****e tickets first i.e. Directly behind the goals.

Later on they will sell tickets in the west and east stands.

Anyone know who the designated home team are this year? Last 2 years it was Cork.

Behind the goals is where I want to be but I get your point if you want to sit at the side and watch the game properly then you are limited. We have had the South Stand the last two year,s some would say its a raffle, others have said its on Garda orders due to access from where both sets of fans are coming from.

I think it's the spin of a coin. Two years ago I went by train, we got off at lansdowne road station and walked past hundreds of city supporters just to get to the 'underpass'. Then we all walked together to the Ballsbridge hotel where we mingled (in our own groups) until closer to kickoff. Last year in the same hotel there was loads of City and Town supporters drinking together.2 Free days for the Gardai and hopefully it will be the same this year.
Fwiw when Dundalk played Legia there was supporters of different LOI clubs also drinking in the same hotel incl City supporters.

Dundalk fans not allowed into the Maldron hotel last Tuesday.

This is the same hotel that was happy to serve Dundalk supporters during the Europa League campaign. But not last Tuesday. I wonder why?

If it was XXXXXX vs Rovers were in the final, would the fans of both clubs ( even be allowed?) socialise side by side in the nearby pubs/ hotels?

    Sadly, unlikely.

There'd be no problem if it was Harps or Galway as XXXXXX. Not coincidentally, two very enjoyable away trips/ends.

There's any number of clubs that could fit XXXXXX there with no issue.

In fairness when we played Pats in the 2015 Semi in Inchicore and got hockied we were kept back for 15-20 mins after the game ended for the home fans to disperse. Logic doesnt always apply...

    vs Rovers?

Maybe the fans would be ok but would the hotels take the chance? The Maldron hotel directly facing Tallaght stadium might have been happy to serve both sets of fans but it didn't happen, either because the Gardai advised against or the hotel wouldn't take the chance. I think if Rovers were in the final the hotels outside the Aviva would be wary about the supporters mixing. But no problem with City and Dundalk, we' ll happily mix before the match.

Don't think there was any enforced segregation when we played Shams in the final in 2011. We were in seperate bars for the most part as supporters organised meet ups, not because we had to be.

  • Registered Users Posts: 613 ✭✭✭Gareth Keenan

Rovers would tend to congregate in Ringsend for historical reasons. Moot point now anyway.

Really looking forward to tomorrows Cup Finals at the Aviva:

    - Cork City FC V UCD Waves in the 2017 Ladies final at 12 noon
    - Dundalk FC V Cork City FC in the 2017 Senior Mens Final at 3.30pm

It would be great to see a huge crowd in the Aviva tomorrow, there are big crowds travelling from Dundalk and Cork but if football fans in Dublin get out and go to the game it could be a massive crowd. Its only €10 to see the two best teams in Ireland over the last four years go head to head, plus the Ladies final, plus the experience of the unique Cup Final day atmosphere of the Aviva.

The marketing of the final by the FAI has been pathetic, in particular, when compared to the fantastic work done for the Ladies Gaelic Football that resulted in 46,500+ at the Cork - Mayo game. Hopefully the best football supporters in the world will turn out in their thousands tomorrow for two great games of football.

I doubt anyone knows it on. I haven't seen any advertising of it and the only mention I've seen is from the likes of the Extratime Twitter feed. Also the usual Ticketmaster mess of only selling seats in small batches is in operation.

The clubs do a great job promoting the game. LMFM reported on Wednesday that Dundalk had sold 12,500 tickets to date. I presume Cork will have sold even more given that Cork is a much larger place and on a high after winning the league.

The FAI announced a great deal for schoolboy teams but left it too late for many of them to make the necessary arrangement with parents and transport.

Will many neutrals attend? The last two finals have been drab and Cork's style of football seems to be a turn off for many. A couple of LOI fans I've spoken to won't go just because Cork are playing.

I wouldn't know this was even on if I didn't support City, nothing on national radio or tv

Not one radio or TV ad from the FAI or the sponsor compared to say the Lidl Ladies Gaelic football final which was on TV non stop for 3 weeks before the game

I hope Dundalk score early. That'll make or break the game as a spectacle. Looking forward to it.

Fully agree, an early goal for Dundalk and we could have a classic Cup Final. Great piece by Brian Kerr in todays Irish Independant on how poorly the FAI have promoted the Cup Final and the League of Ireland generally despite the huge improvements in standards as evidenced by Dundalks great European run last year.

May hinter United and Chelsea fans who want to see the match live but Match of the Day highlights there for those who want to go to the Cup Final.

I hope last years attendance of 26,400 is bettered today, it would be fantastic to see a crowd north of 30,000. That will depend on 'the best fans in the world' in the greater Dublin area making a call this morning to head to the Cup Final, great value at a €10.

they are, there was an email out about it I think; basically swipe the card at the podium turnstiles and you'll get through to the premium seats

We are premium, FAI sent out an email to confirm attendance, I didn't get it because my mate orders the tickets for the two of us.

What's with the Fire Brigade doing security? I know they are there to control flares but their presence is a bit OTT!

After 2 drab finals, this one is surprisingly open, both goalkeepers have seen a bit of action anyway. Not a classic, but pretty decent.

I'd say that's probably civil defence and not DFB.
