hi; my dad passed away a little over a year ago and his name is still on the gas and electric bill; my mum at the time didn't want to deal with ringing you and at 79 years of age gets a bit confused when she has to confront something. Is there a straight froward process to just get her name on the bill as at this stage it is upsetting her when she sees the bills coming in with his name on it.

I could give you account numbers etc through pm if you require

    regards
    Liz

    Hi Liz,

Thank you for getting in touch. We wish to extend our sympathies - we are very sorry for your loss.

Would your mother be able to send a letter or email to Electric Ireland?

The person who would like to register an account in their name is required to contact us for authorisation to register them. If your mother could outline that she needs to put the electricity and gas in her name, confirming the relevant electricity MPRN (meter point reference number) and GPRN (gas point reference number), her address, home telephone number and that the currently named account-holder is deceased, this request can be processed for her as soon as possible. The MPRN and GPRN can be found on an electricity and gas bill respectively. Your mother's date of birth will be required also, to add to the account.

The relevant email address is service@electricireland.ie and if your mother does not have email and is sending a letter, it would be required that the letter be signed by your mother and posted to Electric Ireland, P.O. Box 841, South City Delivery Office, Cork T12C825.

Also, would you be happy to have your name and telephone number added as authorised contact to the account? This would mean you could contact us to discuss the account if ever there is a query. If so, inclusion of this request in the above email or letter is sufficient.

Alternatively, if you were to telephone Electric Ireland Customer Service on 1850 372 372 with your mother present, all of the above could be processed also. The advisor could speak to you for most of the call once your mother is able to confirm at the start that she is happy for you to look after the matter. Customer Service are available until 8pm Monday to Saturday.

Please let us know if you have any further queries.

    Kind regards,
    Una

You are very welcome Liz - we're happy to advise.

If you opt for telephoning Customer Service with your mother present, and if the following is of relevance to you: just ensure to advise the agent that you wish to have your name added to the account as an authorised contact for future queries, not just for setting up your mother's registration.

    Kind regards,
    Una
