No its not. That game was there for the taking and we messed up. Should have won

Should have won that, easily. The attack should have finished their chances, but both of their keepers made a lot of good saves. Had our keeper saved the one decent fcuking shot they had we'd be walking away with 3 points.

Sturridge was shít. He's supposed to be the "best finisher in our team" he was given chances on a plate and decided to either sky the ball, swing and miss it entirely or dance around on it until he was dispossessed or his shin pad fell off.

Daniel's greed drives me insane from deep positions.

    So bad.

    Coutinho, goal aside was awful.
Henderson and Can not a good pairing, id hook Can.
Firmino i just dont know about him he isn't a striker and can't really play out wide.
Karius - the one thing he had to do he ****ed up. no where near good enough and neither is mignolet. It's time to give ward his shot.

Salah and Henderson probably the best players.

Its hard to take in that we didn't manage three points there but its all very fine margins, I actually think that we were very unlucky in that game.

I wouldn't be too worried about not progressing from this group, plenty of points still there to be won.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,300 ✭✭✭✭razorblunt

''Liverpool remain under pressure to go through '' What is Lineker on .
6pts against the weaker team, sparta at home should be 9 pts to go with the 2 we have
11 pts and a game away to Seville which we could win.

Its BT, they need to sell a story, they'll discuss this in similar detail ahead of the next game to big up a (what should be) a straightforward game against Maribor.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,740 ✭✭✭✭MD1990

Coutinho done very well. Not sure how he went missing.

Firmino & then Sturridge were poor tonight. I wouldn't have taken off Mane. Henderson & TAA played well. Matip looks badly out of form poor on the ball tonight. Our finishing was terrible & Karius was poor for their goal. Frustating game.

    Decent result, ran them ragged.

Six points against Maribor will see things in our own hands.

It's a group we should be winning though and try and avoid some of the big guns

He had been rubbish, he was good tonight. His past 2 performances don't mean his ones before this never happened ffs.

I'm a broken down middled aged man and I could have played in our defence tonight they had so little work to do.

The last few results have been on our attackers.

So..... the fearsome foursome.... brginnign to think this "fastest attack in the league" tag is a bit of a misnomer.

First time the four of them play together in a competitive match and its away in moscow and you are already beginning to write them off. Settle down lad, they will be awesome together this season. You can quote me on that! :)

Very frustrating watch. I won't go much further than that because drawing away to Spartak isn't the worst result (though drawing away to THIS Spartak...)

What it does mean, though, is that we don't really have any room for error. We absolutely have to beat Maribor at home and away now. Had we beaten Spartak today or Sevilla in the first game then we'd have a nice bit of breathing room.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,948 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Not that we would have scored another anyway but that was a criminally low amount of added time. Their keeper was down for 8 minutes himself and they had 3 other injuries outside of that, one of which took up 2 minutes of the allotted 8.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,480 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

Only a matter of time before we have a day all our chances go in. Will give someone a beating very soon.

Karius saves an okay free kick and we win tonight. Their keeper made loads of great saves, our keeper can't make one.

Disappointing. One of the most annoying games of football I've seen in a while. Still though, a point, not the end of the world but putting a lot of pressure on ourselves with games running out.

Karius is brutal btw, cost us again on a free kick. Why is he starting? If he needs games send him on loan, he's miles off Mig and Mig is not exactly great or even good.

More likely it will be the forward line only being able to score every 1 in 17 chances that will cost a manager their job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,983 ✭✭✭✭NukaCola

As long as Klopp is here Firmino will be number 9 and I doubt he does anything with the GK either tbh......he gave Mig a new contract and seems really happy with him for some reason.

I fear klopp won't swallow his pride. Announced karius as #1 last year and swallowed the humble pie to be fair shortly afterwards but he seems to be intent on karius getting to be #1 again.

Karius's performances speak for themselves IMO, he's rubbish / no where near ready.

Yea, Hendo and Moreno were good.

A lack of ideas and bad decision making cost Liverpool tonight. A couple of players seemed tired too.

The goals issue will eventually click I'd say; it's definitely frustrating though.

On the need for a high scoring striker thing... I mean, Mane still has 3 in 5, and Salah has 5 in 7. Those are pretty incredible scoring ratios, especially to have 2 of them in the team. Those are certainly better figures than your average 'AMC' type.

And both, particularly Salah, have room to improve which is pretty scary.

But I definitely think our other options up front have to be better. Strurridge as the "less free roaming front 3, more standard striker" guy is just unfortunately not good enough any more it looks like. Perhaps Ings can come in and fill that role. but one way or another, we need a different kind of striker to give options. (Solanke down the line perhaps too, but he's certainly not ready for that pressure just yet)

    A combination of both.
End of day, manager takes the hit.

Team confidence seems low since Mane got sent off and city spanked us. Tide will turn no doubt.

Firmino had a shocker tonight. Sometimes he's brilliant but when he's bad he's awful. And Sturridge had the blinkers on after he came on. Just wasn't interested in passing the ball.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,948 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

Every time Firmino has a below par performance the "20 goal a season striker" chat comes around. Firmino is exactly what we need in that position and 90% of the time he's on fire.

    This.

When is the last time a Liverpool keeper made multiple saves to win or draw a gear?

BTW, why were BT commentators talking about his very good performance v Leicester?? If he catches the corner, it was a comfortable win, instead he flaps at it, 2-1 and it's panic stations, + he gives away the penalty.
Decent if not outstanding goalkeepers are ten-a-penny, (well, maybe not, but you know), most EPL teams have 2 better than out number 1 FFS.

Game tonight though was lost at the other end, terrible misses. I like fermino, but he was off the game tonight, and needed substituting instead of mane IMHO.

Can took about 50 touches in midfield. Killing our attacks at times.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,775 ✭✭✭✭Gbear

I really don't understand the subs there.

We've 1 CF in the entire 18. There's no Solanke or anything but we bring John Flannagan along for some reason, when you'd be better off sticking Milner or Can at full back.

I didn't understand why a 3rd sub wasn't brought on (Solanke in particular) but Klopp didn't give himself the options to do that.
And there's no point bringing on another player who has no final ball in AOC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,198 ✭✭✭Talisman

On a positive note, Moreno has a few segments to add to his YouTube highlights reel.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,187 ✭✭✭mosstin

Regardless of the profligacy of our strikers, I still can't get my head around the fact that we're saddled with two desperately poor goalkeepers. Karius tonight, with the one piece of work that he had to do failed miserably once more. He's ****, he's not getting better.
I saw a few claim that Mignolet was pretty good vs Leicester at the weekend. Not the same game I watched. Okazaki made a dick of him (be nefarious means, sure, but even then....) and Vardy was brave (and clever) when Mignolet dithered. Absolutely not up to it either.
Perfect storm of being poor at the back right now and being incapable of putting the ball in the net at the other end. Having no keeper at the club who's up to the job makes it the impossible job.

I don't entirely understand the subs complaints for today. I get that Klopp should often make subs earlier but calls around 60 minutes today didn't make sense to me, at that point we were still playing fairly well and didn't need to bring on fresh legs. Not sure why Mane was taken off for Sturridge, with Firmino having a poor game and being pretty notoriously bad on the wing he really should have come off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,882 ✭✭✭✭klose

In work so didn't see the game but I read we had the chances and didn't finish them off, same story once more.

We were gifted this group, couldn't have been drawn in a handier one and we are still making hard work for ourselves. Still confident we can qualify of course but we are still making it a more difficult task than it is.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,212 ✭✭✭shamrock55

So we have 2 crap keepers,a rubbish defence, and forwards who can't score,
Does that mean we're just ****e

The speed of the buildup wasn't the issue.

We had buckets of chances and you need to be patient with a team that deep and with that many men behind the ball.

We shouldn't need 40 shots on goal to score twice.
Every time Firmino has a below par performance the "20 goal a season striker" chat comes around. Firmino is exactly what we need in that position and 90% of the time he's on fire.

He works for the system but this squad doesn't have the quality in the box in it to leverage all the quality positions it finds itself in.

We didn't score an impressive number of goals last season. Not by a long shot.

Mane and Coutinho are probably the only players in there who are generally in the right ball park in terms of the breadth of skills they possess.

The other two are very specialised.
Salah is phenomenal up until he gets into the box and then mysteriously forgets how to play football about 60% of the time but he relies a lot on that blistering pace. How often does he lose or miscontrol the ball and then just runs all the way around the player taking it off them to retrieve it? He's like Quicksilver at times but he's not a top class footballer in terms of technique or perhaps more so in terms of coolness under pressure. He always panics in the box. Part of that is not being confident in your technique though.
Firmino, in addition to occasionally not looking like a footballer, I think most of all lacks the movement of a top class CF, but also he's not a top class finisher.
He fits in terms of the press and work rate and he's good at forward play outside the box but he lacks the lethal qualities of a true CF.

This system can make us look like a top class attacking team, but it can't make us actually be a top class attacking team.
We don't have the aggregate level of talent in the squad to be where we want to be.

    5 games
    119 shots on goal
    31 on target
    7 goals

    One goal every seventeen chances.

    (Stats from BBC)

Just to put that into perspective, our opponents in the same five games:

    35 shots on goal
    20 on target
    8 goals

So we socre from every 1 in 17
And we concede from 1 in 3.87

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

That's not even close to the corner. He doesn't even get a fingertip to it. Why is he keeping his two hands together like that? Stretch and get a hand to the fcuking ball, you're 6'2 not a child.

This won't be popular and I really don't like him from what I have seen of his life in the media he is a horrible person..

But we could do with a nasty bast@rd like Vardy as our main striker.

He runs all day his dirty win at all cost mentality and out and out goals from a centre forward is something this squad lacks.

    No, no, no.

Excuses excuses excuses.... A predictable, saveble penalty that the BT graphics predicted, and weak coming for and flapping at the cross.

Mignolet has had several years to prove himself, and has been proven not up to it imo. I can't name off the top of my head any epl team he would walk into.
