Politics and sport don't mix well, buckos.

That's like saying real life and sport don't mix. Football doesn't exist in a vacuum.

Fair enough, I think its a discussion for a different thread though, I know someone brought up the deal with Tibet water and LFC and there was some concern about the deal. Maybe they would like to continue their point, I think I'll stay out of it at the risk of bringing the thread OT.

It was a throwaway comment. I seperate my entertainment from "real life", it's easier that way. **** can tedious real quick otherwise and life is short.

Can's contract doesn't look to be getting sorted anytime soon.........

Kloppo "“He will play here for the next year that is for sure. All the rest we have to see.”

Can is hedging his bets I'd say.

We need a keeper. We havent had a decent keeper since Reina (who had gotten so bad he had to go)
We need a centre half because Lovern isnt good enough but he knows he'll be picked ahead of Klaven.
We need a defensive midfielder, a good one, someone with experience.
We need a new captain, Henderson doesnt motivate anyone, he was God awful on Saturday. At 3-2 a proper captain would have driven the team.
We need to look to someone apart from Clyne at right full, he offers little going forward and cant head a ball.

My belief is Klopp isnt being given a "warchest". At Dortmund he brought in 8 and got rid of 8 players during most windows. Hardly the same at Liverpool is it ? FSG arent spending the TV money like other clubs, then what are they doing ?

Fair enough, but are the jerseys made in China? And I'm sure there are many other deals Liverpool have with Chinese companies. I'll leave it too, football and politics don't mix when you view football as entertainment.

    Good chat, Nuka, good points.

I agree with you that we need all those players and probably more, but I don't think it's FSG, I think it's Klopp.

Haha, I'm just here to talk football, Firminho got me a rake of points in fantasy, watching liverpool play makes me happy, almost like my second team.

For those who think we have to sell to buy, what's the logic behind the Keita/Van Dijk bids/interest?

We'd have sold Coutinho anyway to balance the books?

Klopp has taken responsibility for the decision to pursue only the top targets. He has explicitly said it's up to him. Meanwhile, FSG have given him £35m+ for Salah, at least £68m for Keita and were happy for him to court a £60m+ defender; now they've turned down almost £100m for Coutinho. How in the name of jaysus is that 'sell-to-buy'?

Klopp can do no wrong in so many people's eyes.

Yes, and it's not as if these are deal-breaking issues, but they are his responsibility. Not having Plan B players he'd sign, subs at the weekend, how he is handling Coutinho and Can. But he has chances in the next 2 weeks to fix some of that...

Owners never made an offer for VVD. Ok they offered big money for Keita but lets face it Barca were always going to come in for Phil. The owners knew this. How often do they balance the books or profit in windows ? More than most !

Not seemingly having any targets apart ftom VVD and Keita says it all about the lack of scouting by Liverpool. The likes of Juve have 4 players for each position scouted for every window. Liverpool sentd a bloke towards mainland Europe and he just stops off in Southampton ....

FSG knew PSG were going to buy Neymar without Barca's consent? Some claim. Because there is no way in hell Barca could have afforded a €100m+ bid this summer until Neymar was sold.

We don't have a properly functional scouting network for senior players, that's true. But when your manager gets the team into the Champions League and raises his standards so high that only one player for each position is considered, what difference does it make?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,926 ✭✭✭✭Agent Coulson

Spurs have just had a £25m bid for 17 year old Sessegnon turned down.

Seriously trying to buy any player in this market is a fool's errand really.

I think the tables should be turned on Barcelona with say Dortmund and Liverpool's local papers saying that the clubs will sign Barcelona players.

Allegedly the player would like to move.
A thought of 50 million euro would secure the player.
Sources say Barcelona will accept a 60 million euro bid.
Reports say the player does not want to upset Barcelona.
Barcelona say the player is not for sale but it is believed a bid of 60 million euro will secure the player.

Repeat these headlines everyday and see how Barcelona like it!

One of their youth players, Samper, he's highly rated, has apparently been told that he is not going to feature in the first team.

Might be worth inquiring about him. There is another guy, Sergi Roberto who is supposed to be good as well.

Every player in La Liga has a release clause, its one of the rules of that league. All Liverpool would have to do is start activating them and then Barcelona would be forced to give out new contracts and pay rises. Would be a really dirty way to fight back.

Game tonight will probably finish 5-4 or something. Hoffenheim are set piece specialists apparently, which is lovely.

I'm not sure that the players would a) appreciate being linked with Liverpool b) consider it a strong negotiating position.   Empty threats aren't gonna scare Barcelona.

The point is not really to get any of their players or scare them but for them to experience the annoyance and frustration of trying to prepare for a season when the tabloids are linking their players to all clubs around Europe. The players considering whether it might be a good move for them or not (look at Neymar's wages!). Their fans getting nervous and venting frustration to radio shows, twitter and forums.

Man City could activate Buequets release clause of 152 mill. I reckon there are a number of Barcelona players that would still like to work with Pep.

Couldnt care less about Barcelona. Klopp/FSG are making a bags of the transfer window. They didnt buy in January when they should have and now look even more inept.

Lose to nil tonight and the pressure is huge.

I'd imagine they couldn't care less as very few of their players would move to Liverpool.

Dunno, but NB have a shoe/runner factory in the UK, they employ loads of shoemakers in relatively well paid jobs.

Saw a documentary on it recently.

I think losing 1-0 or leaving with a 0-0 draw and the pressure will be huge.

We should not be drawing or losing this game tonight.

Although saying that our record away in Europe with Klopp is:

    Rubin Kazan 1-0 Win
    Sion 0-0
    Augsberg 0-0
    Man United 1-1
    Dortmund 1-1
    Villareal 1-0 Loss

So yeah actually a draw is the most likely result!

I think I remember reading that the entire transfer fee needs to be lodged with La Liga to actually activate. Very expensive way of leaving burning turds on a neighbour's doorstep.

Don't think bids from Liverpool are gonna upset any Barca fans or unsettle any of their players. They are all too aware of where both clubs stand in the pecking order. Besides, if Liverpool were to waste their energy on petty nonsense like that, they'd have a harder time being taken seriously by potential signings.

Southampton are being silly. We've wanted VVD very early in transfer window, and every other club is talking to players that are not theirs, Southampton are no Saints , or are they. Anyway we done little wrong and we were willing to pay a hefty fee for a player they paid much less for, a player that actually has wanted to leave before we showed an interest.
It's very different than an arrogant Barca who on the eve of a new season are tapping up and instructing our best player to paint a picture of unhappiness at Liverpool when the opposite is true. We've built a team around him and had high hopes for his new midfield role, and they think they can come along, and not just take our player but ruin our whole preparation and strategy for new season. We need Coutinho for another few months, not a year, not two, a few more months.

Hardly. I assume you are going off the new Rangnick stuff where he says it would be pointless for them to sell him this summer given that they won't be able to do a lot with what they'll get compared to what they'll get next summer?

No they are not being silly. We didn't even put in a bid for him, at least Barca have. It was ridiculous of Klopp to meet VVD also, complete lack of respect shown.

Plus, VVD would be the sixth player we sign from Southampton (if it happens), in as many years. They have every right to tell us where to go, we'd be asking the club to do the same thing if Barca came knocking for a player every summer.
