Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Klopp said there'll be signings now we have Champions League. Said one player needed it for a clause...Van Dijk maybe?

Oh that's intriguing, Klopp is such a tease!

I'd say it's Howedes myself, seems like the type of clause he'd have to let him go for only €20m, especially given the fact that he signed his latest contract only last year when Schalke were a mid-table club.

Does anybody who is sane and over 10 years old take any notice of Dunphy?

A certain few posters from a rival team seem to parrot everything he says.

But as you say, are there any over 10 years old? :)

Also, Klopp is not in the job 2 years yet.

Got to Europa League final last season which was regarded as a non achievement at the time but the next season it was a great achievement for some reason.

Following season had us challenging for league but faded away but still secured top 4 and CL.

How is that not progress over 6th-8th place under last two seasons of Rodgers?

We've finished above them twice in the last 10 years.

Dunphy said Jose made them hard to beat, but LVG already had them well organized (rigidity so) and they didn't concede that many more. Jose state them express themselves a bit more going forward.
I'll set the timer alarm for that. Where is the draw? On the IDL?

We are better against biggest sides, so hopefully we get biggest side and toughest group.
It the only way we will get out of group, have no hope in a tricky group of teams we should beat.

Every time I watch it the ground Firmino makes up to be involved in that it gets more impressive.

Wijnaldum while still not at his best was vastly improved tonight...most likely related to Hendo being a bit more restrained.

If I'm remembering correctly he took a month or two to get going last year, could be a guy who builds as the season goes on.

Great performance. I think we have a big chance in the CL moreso than in the PL due to the style of play. Mane is up there with the very best attackers in the league . That nightmare mignolet had me screaming at the TV again.

Unless UEFA change the rules in the future, that's the last time Liverpool will play a CL qualifier as top 4 go straight to group stage from next season.

Not necessarily. Finish 4th with a team outside the top 4 winning cl or el and we'd have to do it, so if these rules were there last season we'd have had to play the qualifier anyhow. Only 4 teams from a country at most automatically go into the groups, the 5th has to qualify.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,480 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

We need to play the bigger teams to have a chance, Barca are not going to play with 10 behind ball, nor will Real. We need the best, we can go toe to toe with them

Hopefully. He hasn't been terrible, just ineffective due to a combination of Henderson by passing him a lot of the time and having no out and out AM on the field.

That was the first thing that needed to be done this season, and well done to them for doing it. Very happy.

Hopefully we bolster the squad now in the next week or so that's left.

Just watching RTEs coverage of the highlights from the other qualifiers.

According to them, Pepe Reina won the CL with Liverpool 12 years ago.

I have a worse one courtesy of BT Sport tonight, when Liverpool went 2-0 up on the night (4-1 agg) the commentator said that Hoff needed 4 unanswered goals. I kinda thought if they scored 3 unanswered they would go through on away goals :pac:

I don't think this the case.

According to UEFA on this page the maxmum number of teams from one country is 5.

So that means that the Europe League winner goes straight to group stage. Same as this year with Utd winning and not affecting Liverpool.

If a team then also wins the CL whilst being outside the Top 4 then 4th would go into the EL.

Klopp talking about new signings and players looking for new contracts waiting for us to get CL football. Hopefully a good sign. Said it last week that I didn't think we'd see any movement before we qualify, hopefully we see some now.

If going toe to toe with barce and real means getting beaten 5-4 then yes I think we could, but I dread to think of them running at our defence every 3or 4 minutes, lovren and Moreno would be in knots

  • Registered Users Posts: 11,067 ✭✭✭✭martingriff

There could be some easy games to get in each of thee pots but would mean a crap load of travelling. Pot 4 looks like be travelling far a field

    Nobody's questioning Liverpool's attack, it's the defence that's ****e.

But there you go. It's Klopp's Liverpool and it's better than Hodgson's Liverpool. Alway remember 2010, people.

    Just enjoy these days.

That 3rd goal really was remarkable. It looks like a quick break, but when the ball is actually played in behind to Mane, the two guys who did all the damage (Firmino and Can) were both deep within their own half still, with 7 Hoffenheim players between them and the keeper. Intelligence and desire.

Would love to know how much of that was pre-planned. It just looks so strategically perfect. The first two guys on either side of the box (Mane and Salah) taking all the attentions of the opposition, while the second two guys ghost in behind each of the first two, and supply the cross and finish.
