Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I actually feel that Milner is getting hard done by here overall. He's obviously not being considered at LB at present, and he seems to be down the list for midfield and now Ox has signed.....
So where does that leave Milner?

I hope he gets game time coz he's a fantastic pro with a great attitude imo.
I love the meaty headed basstid.

Wait, so did Sakho not get sold?

Gone to Palace for £26 million.

Milner is the new Lucas. Off the bench to bring the result home. Probably won't play CB but will play a DM role IMHO.

I'd hazard a wild guess that if you asked him to name the top 20 defenders he worked with that Evans wouldn't even cross his mind.

But anyway, like I said all about opinions fella. Yer entitled to yours.

Seen alot of Evans last three years.

Alot of NI games as well.

    Extremely solid imo.

Could have done worse but they are valuing him out of a move so it's academic.

If that's the case (and yeah looks that way) then it's very harsh on Milner and I wouldn't blame him for wanting out next Summer.

That's why we didnt need Ox imo, Milner can do all the things he can do equally well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,791 ✭✭✭✭Charlie19

I'm absolutely delighted with the attackers at the club at the moment.

Salah, Mane and anybody in between is just frightening for the opposition.

Will just have to accept the roll-coaster ride to follow in the up coming season.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,128 ✭✭✭NabyLadistheman

Klaven is no where near good enough. Gomez is raw & imo does not have the required experience to play CB. That is our back-up for what is already a shoddy defence. No dressing it up we're gonna leak goals. We have not addressed it so no point in crying when it happens

Milner's 31 though, and Ox is 24 and significantly faster. It's not a deal we were crying out for by any means, but it popped up as an opportunity, so they took it.

Approaching 32 years of age in 17 weeks there's no way Milner can do what Ox can do. I totally respect Milner and he may well be ahead of Ox in the pecking order for impact off the bench going forward but within 6 or max 12 months Ox will be that utility MF who is sprung from the bench to do whatever needs doing and Milner will be filling the Wise Old Head Lucas role.

Has Gomez ever actually played centre half at a decent level?

21 appearances for Charlton in the championship, and underage internationally... so not really. I don't think young CB's should ever have too much expectation put on them at Prem level... it's a position you learn in by making mistakes, and those mistakes will often lead to goals or chances. Unfortunately, there's a lot riding on him being able to step up a few levels now.

I think ive realised its all misdirection. This is all part of the plan. We have a dodgy defence, so teams come out to play, and then... we fucķin savage them!

On a serious note though, i'm still absolutely delighted we are signing Keïta. I know it's next year but boy is that something to look forward to. I like that Klopp has a long term view.

Also, although i'm dissapointed we didnt get VVD over the line, I like the fact that Klopp let him know he was the player he wanted, and that he will wait to get him if needs be. I wonder how long he has on his current contract?

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,672 ✭✭✭ElTel

OK Jurgen I'm still with you.
Gegenpressen all the way but you have to be more proactive this year and trust the fringe players more when it starts to wane.
Leaner but meaner this year and only 4 months 'till our next injection.

Damp squibb of a window but I like Ox and Robertson and hope the lads find a way to keep up with Salah!!
CL football! I hear Kiev is nice.

He's only 20 years old, has to get his start eventually. Not like we're relying on him either, he's 4th choice.

Way past his bedtime. He has to get his homework done and be in bed by pm on school nights.

Expect meltdown posts about FSG being spoofers and elaborate schemes that fooled fans into thinking they were making money available for transfers when all along they were just fooling us all etc etc early tomorrow morning as he eats his cereal and his Mum comb's his hair.

    Kieta £50 million
    Salah £36 million
    Oxlade-Chamberlain £35 million
    Robertson £8 million
Solanke £8-10 million tribunal fee guesstimate

About £140 million spent I reckon and yes Kieta has to be mentioned this window (so we don't need to next summer!)

    Sakho £23 million
    Origi loan £6 million
    Lucas £5 million
    Stewart 4 million
    Wisdom 2 million
    Academy £1 million

    About £40 million raised.

    Net spend £100 million.

    You're probably correct.

I just feel bad for Milner as he was close to being our player of the year last season in a position he didnt even want to be in.
And now it looks like he's gonna be a peripheral figure.
I just think if I was in his shoes I'd feel a tad hard done by.

Then again, I felt the same about Lucas too.

Maybe its coz I'm getting auld myself :)

I'm hoping Klopp can improve him & Ox like he has others, although he hasnt worked miracles with everyone the likes of Can, Lallana & Firmino have turned inside out. Maybe to that degree is optimistic tho.
If he makes something out of Chamberlain it'll make Wenger look worse than he does in most fans eyes.

Virgil will join Liverpool in Jan. He won't look good on pitch for Southampton after the way they treated him. I expect him to give away penalties and get sent off in coming weeks.

Instead of paying £75m for VVD im not sure why we dont get 10 young defenders in or around 7 million and see if any of them are any good. 1 of them is bound to be quality!!!

Ah I see. So that could be an alternative way of judging a team's success, maybe through some kind of weighted league table?
