    Hey all, the wife's BTW is coming up shortly and she wants to bite the bullet on a new steed. Needs to be a good mix of sturdy, practical, mudguard friendly whilst also being reasonably light and sleek. She's currently riding an ageing Giant Rapid 2.

    Ive been pushing a hub geared option based on my own commuter, but TBH, there arent many options in that price range other than the Genesis day one 20 (and that has a Nexus hub), and Im not sure she'd be too happy with the extra weight anyway.

    I know next to nothing nothing about race bikes, so any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
