    If you look at any beginner LED project they usually have a 2-300 ohm resistor in series with the LED when powering from a 5V supply.

    Thanks. Ordering a bunch of resistors, 1N4001 diodes and PC817 optocouplers. Seems to be dirt cheap coming from China.

    Will also get blue insulated heatshrink butt wire connectors so I could cut existing wire, insert it back into this connector and also insert a 3rd wire for my monitoring needs. Heatshrink the hell out of it and we're done.
