You people should try and actually estimate when you can't be bothered to get a reading, not pull numbers out of thin air.. looking at previous usage and time of year you should realize your 'guestimate' is about 300 ticks too high..

And this is not new and you probably will keep guessing with your wet finger up as many people will just have DD so you grab their money anyway.

Obviously not paying a cent until a new bill arrives.. Or maybe I should just switch as you seem to never learn

    Hello paulheu,

Electricity meters are read by ESB Networks for Electric Ireland and other electricity providers. They send the reading to the provider and a bill is then generated. ESB Networks are unable to read all meters every second month, so when they cannot read a meter, they issue an estimate to the provider for billing the customer. However ESB Networks aim to read each meter for four out of the six annual bills (subject to accessibility).

Customers are not required to pay an estimated bill once they send us a meter-reading to correct it. We can process meter-readings by private message here on Boards. If the customer pays by direct debit, we can put a hold on the direct debit if necessary while they obtain their meter-reading. It is just required that the customer contact us upon immediate receipt of the bill (or shortly after) in order to have enough time before the direct debit instruction is presented to the bank.

A direct debit can be put on hold until just before the next bill eight weeks later if the customer needs this amount of time.

If a customer does pay an over-estimated bill, the next time the meter is read, the difference will be deducted from that bill.

If you have any further questions, please let us know.

    Regards,
    Una
