    Hi,

Would it be possible to get this 40pin lcd to work in either a gameboy color or advance? I have both but the lack of backlight is horribly annoying. I got it for free so if anyone knows how please let me know. I'm decent at soldering and also have a Pi which would be ideal to put in the gameboy also. I just need to know about possibly a breakout board for LCD to Pi or where/how to wire it from LCD to Pi pinout.

    Thanks

Different cables - different chipset - I seem to remember Ben Hack on Youtube doing something similar using an fpga to translate signals - but the effort would be huge... and expensive.

Might be easier to backlight the Gameboy using this $10 part...

Frontlight is nowhere near as good as a backlight screen unfortunately, With LOCA it might be bearable but...
The glass screen on the site is €4.09, front light €10.13, LOCA €5.53 and postage €17.23, intl handling €3.15, Total €40.13 . Which is awful price, and would probably pick up a AGS101 SP and use the screen from that for the price. Really don't want to be spending that kind of money on a gbc or gba.

    thanks

Hi- the instructable might not have been so clear the site where to get the bits from...

The kit in that instructable can be bought here:
    https://handheldlegend.com

Its $9.99 + $7.00 international postage and has all the bits included (minus tools of course) - which isnt bad.

There is no mention of any glue needed - and its a real backlight - not front light. There is an extra chip they sell to boost the contrast.

The bit that worries me though is there there seems to be a high rate of people breaking the lcd removing the old backing the first time they try this - so id be really careful if you were to do it.
