I think I'll get Yakuza 0 out of the way before I move onto 6.

    Excellent! Thanks for that.

Don't forget about Kiwami too. That's the remake of No.1.

Just finished playing the Beta version of Metal Gear Survive, I think it can be best described as "hot garbage".

I tried it for 10 minutes, was awful stuff altogether.

Kojima made the right decision getting out of that mess.

He didn't make any decision. He was fired.

    I did. I loved it.

  • I take back what I said about MGS3
My second play-through is confirming this

One of the greatest games of all time

Pretty great unfortunately. Konami aren't just pachinko machines. They have stakes in anime and TV as well as a massive chain of gyms in Japan. All of them aren't as high risk as video games.

    Bastards.

I really should give it another try, when i first played it back in the day, i stopped playing because i hated some new mechanics of the game, i cant remember for the life of me what they were... the camera angles? i gave up pretty much at the start, lol

Anyway, what ya playing it on Mick?

+1 for MGS3 never finished it on PS2 , got it again with the reissue on Xbox 360 and it really clicked with me, also peacewalker I'd never played and I loved that even more despite the horrible lag in multiplayer got 200+ hours from.

To those that posted about the MGS:S beta thanks for saving me the bandwidth, though I never expected it to be any good.

Playing through Yakuza 0 at the moment, and it's probably the best entry in series I've played thanks to its whole-hearted embrace of the more ludicrous side of the franchise (without going Dead Souls crazy). The karaoke sequences alone are worth the download. At the same time, it drives me nuts that the series' core has only minimally improved in the last decade. I still think the pacing is maddeningly, unnecessarily plodding at times, where everything takes much longer than it feels it needs to. There's ****loads of filler - which I do stress veers between annoying and oddly being part of the appeal - and a few of its RPG holdovers like inventory management don't really add anything at all.

As said, I think it's still good fun, and I imagine even better if you haven't experienced a Yakuza game before. I still am waiting for the entry where they toss out the established formula and rules and try to completely rebuild the thing from the ground up. Hopefully with a new protagonist 6 will be the one... although five core entries and a half dozen spin-offs / remakes later, I'm not sure that it will ever actually happen :pac:

I completed the twin snakes on the GameCube last week. A quality remake, only annoyance is I prefer the original soundtrack from the ps1.

Playing the HD collection now on x360, so getting through Snake eater, then onto mgs2 followed by mgs4 on PS3.
Bluepoint games did a great job on the HD upgrade.
Think you can get it on PS3 also.

They dickied up Peace walker too. Its such a better game than mgsv to note. I've to go into a rant on how much mgsv sucks ass but I will do so later on :P

Finished RE4. Holy shít, that's an amazing game. Only 13 years late to the party on that one. Escort stuff wasn't nearly as bad as I was fearing. Certainly nothing like the Raiden/Emma torture of MGS2.

Started something more recent-ish in Undertale now. Liking the meta humour and soundtrack so far. Have heard all about pacifist and genocide playthroughs. Gonna go with pacifist.

It won't be popular opinion, but I loved those psp mgs "sort of card" turn based games. Had great crack woth them.
I never played mgs 3 until I got it on ps vita and I just could not play it due to thumb sticks. Its
Was imposible for me to play so I abandoned it amd never finished it.

I can't comment on any portable version but I suspect it would be very hard to manage or play in short bursts.

Getting to grips with the controls on MGS3 is crucial to enjoying the experience (this is where I kind of struggled on first play-through).
    A proper controller is essential.

I thought Twin Snakes was pretty crappy. It had major frame rate issues despite using the engine that was silky smooth on PS2 while running on the vastly superior Gamecube. Also MGS2 gameplay features like first person aiming were added which totally broke the game due to the levels and bosses not really being designed around them. Then there was the cast phoning it in as they were being treated like crap, it was only David Hayter's intervention that got most of the original voice cast back on board and they under cut their pay.

    I don't agree here

    Fight against
Grey Fox is a fist fight
    - Same as PS1
    Fight against
Liquid (Hind D Chopper) in first person with the Missile launcher
    - Same as PS1
    Fight against
    Sniper Wolf is First person
    - Same as PS1
    Fight against
Metal Gear Rex is first person with the Missile launcher
    - Same as PS1
    Fight against
Liquid part 2 is a fist fight
    - Same as PS1
    And the fight against
Vulcan Raven uses a combination of Missile launcher and is enhanced by using C4 & Claymores

I think you might be exaggerating a tad bit

Been playing Yakuza 0 too and enjoying it a lot. First one I've played since the original on PS2. It feels very oddly paced though. I think I'm on the last chapter and I'm only just beaten the first section of the two major mini games. (real estate and cabaret management)

Exaggerating? I don't think I've ever seen him do that before…

You just mention boss fights.... which kind if were changed a little to take into account the new controls and forget the face they make revolver ocelot a total cake walk. And anyway the bosses were slightly tweaked for twin snakes.

I'm talking about the majority of the game which is sneaking past guards which is totally broken now that you can tranq them in first person and the AI is no where near as agressive as in mgs2 to compensate.

It doesn't ruin the game totally but that and what I mentioned contribute to making it a much worse game than the original which seems to be the common consensus with the game. It's the lesser experience despite the updated graphics.

Mgs1 was built around the limitations of its control scheme.

The worst offender are the new cutscenes which are complete and utter **** and laughably over the top.

Pixel-y 2D games are ten-a-penny these days but I really like the look of Iconoclasts. Getting decent reviews too.

I’ve played around an hour of Iconoclasts, and it’s real good. Plays like a Metroidvania mixed with a Treasure game, and manages to actually live up to that description for the most part. That it actually has a relatively smart, politically-charged (well, as far as these things go) story is a nice bonus.

Looking forward to picking it up when I have money next. Been following the game for the last 7 years. Noitu Love 2 is the only other game that managed to capture the spirit of Treasure's finest 2D work so imagine this does so as well.

I've started buying all my games on GOG now ; got €3.49 back on my last purchases (so only €16.50 for Iconoclasts) and €3 off the next purchase.

Really liking the platforming in this; Robin has just the right amount of speed (especially compared to, say, Shantae), and relying on a generous ledge-grab rather than pixel-perfect jumping/wall-jumping feels great.

    *edit* OMG

Thought Iconoclasts alone would have made a good week for 2D indie platformers... but Celeste is another level again. Absolutely outstanding piece of work: plays like a dream and hugely atmospheric at the same time. Must play stuff based on the first extended level alone.
