Black Flag is great, but I think Origins might be the new winner now, totally revamped combat and proper rpg progression. Syndicate is another great one too. London never looking as well.

Black Flag definitely opens up in the latter half of the game where it's more about the ship stuff than land stuff, and when you're properly used to sailing about, listening to sea shanties and get used to the ship combat.

I'd still put AC2 above it in terms of best AC games I've played, but Black Flag was well worth playing.

I liked Brotherhood a little more than AC2, both fantastic though.

You might have got a lot of fun out of mercs but most people bought it for the single player campaign which was one of the worst things I played all last gen. Chris's campaign is one of the worst things I've ever played.

Resident Evil 6 was a joke, I never touched the multiplayer aspects as I bought it for the single player content and got what amounted to a steaming pile of crap.

Is it as devoid of any care nor sole as the earlier parts of the game though? It's the type of game I usually love most of all, but was a painful, tedious chore where it felt like someone only made the game because they were forced to by the guy that pays their wages, not because they wanted to because they love their job and try to make the absolute best games they possibly can.

To be honest it's put me off looking at any ubisoft open world title entirely, including far cry and watch dogs (even though I have the first one from a sale a good while back) as apparently Ubisofts hallmark is the stench of nobody giving a sh*t about any of the minor details at any point. The clockwork releases also remind me of ea sports games, doing just barely enough to not be commonly mistaken for the exact same game as the last by someone who hasn't seen the box cover.

Black Flag was so much fun to play, the ship battles were class and firing on the forts at sea and then taking them over.

It's been years since I played it but from what I remember, the first few hours, particularly on land, are a slog. Even later in the game the land missions are just fairly generic Ubisoft AC stuff, but with even less variety than usual. But it's really when you start upgrading your ship and sailing around that the game comes into its own. The naval combat is great, and just sailing around listening to your crew sing sea shanties was always enjoyable.

The land missions are actually some of the worst in any AC game imo, mostly tedious "follow this guy" missions from what I remember. I actually enjoyed AC3's campaign more as a result but the parts on water made Black Flag a better game overall.

Black Flag and Brotherhood were the two best imo. Haven't played Origins, and just started Unity now though.

You should check the difference between WD and WD2. They couldn't be more different really. Ubisoft are also probably put more effort into supporting their games than anyone else, The Division is still getting free updates. Where are you getting this nonsense from?

Yeah, I've enjoyed WD2 a lot from what I've played of it and it's way more fun than WD. It looks like they took a lot of feedback on board in terms of that game.

Plus eavesdropping on enemies. Oh god... so many of them, all the same, all boring, can barely pay attention to what they're actually saying because you have to stay within a very specific radius which is basically just leading you from one hiding spot to another, and occasionally tranq a guard on a tower. So many times... They really were awful missions.

On the flip side, I hated the change from WD to WD2. I just couldn't get over the hipsterness of it. Even the biker gear was hipster! Tried it twice and got no further than a few hours in each time. Shame, as I actually loved the first one, and the serious tone suited it more imo.

Black Flag was one of the best AC games, and unlike some, I didn't mind the land missions as much. Yeah, some of them were tedious but some of them were really well done. There was one near the ned where you're jumping from mast to mast while eavesdropping, I thought that was really good. But it was the sea stuff that was great. So good they're making Sea of Thieves, which basically looks like the naval stuff from Black Flag but better, complete with shanties!

Eh, have you gone back in time to before Sea of Thieves was released?

From a general level of consensus across what I have read. Ubisoft are known for being a company that looks to tick boxes rather than one that looks to put real care into their products having fine detail and personality. The Division might still be getting free updates, but I wouldn't know because from what I saw and the reviews I read it just came over as yet-another-bland-by-the-numbers-slogfest straight from Montreal.

Think he meant skull and bones, which does look exciting, but then again so did AC Origins, Far Cry 5, Watchdogs, etc prior to release. They definitely know how to market, and I don't at all intend that as a side shot, but it just leads to so much disappointment as they fail to deliver all too often.

I love the shanties, even sang along to them.

The great thing about these “games as a service” is that they change over time. Like Destiny before it, The Division was average when it released. Over time and with the additions that were made, it’s become a success. It still has a great player base and there seems to be a lot of hype for The Division 2.

Forget about game reviews and give it a shot for yourself.

I just started The Division this week actually and I'm having a hell of a lot of fun with it.

Yeah I said it in the E3 thread a few weeks ago, but Ubisoft really do make some of the best cinematic/story trailers. The gameplay ones have to be taken with a bathtub of salt given their past history, but the story trailers are always incredible.

I don't know where you are reading this. The consensus was this about 4 years ago sure, but they are getting high praise everywhere for supporting games. Take a look at Rainbow 6 Seige for example. Started of slow, now it's a well loved game with continuous support. The majority of updates aren't paid DLC either they are done to make the games better for everyone.

  • Administrators, Computer Games Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 32,274 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭Mickeroo

Yeah Ubi's support of their games has been very good the last few years, particularly their multiplayer ones. Rainbow 6, For Honour, Ghost Recon and The Division are all significantly better games than when they launched and are still continuing to get content updates.

Yes, sorry, meant Skull and Bones.

I feel the division is average really, feels a bit to repetitive for me. The loot didnt feel rewarding enough either.

Think i get to a gear score of 280 and just couldnt face going any further in the game. Parts of the DLC i didnt really get round to either. I just feel there are better looters out there.

No denying they have improved on it,just dont think the formula worked for me.

I do appreciate Ubi sticking with stuff though. Look at WB's and the issues there games have had, they just abandon them.

Destiny 2 seems to be picking up a bit of momentum now,if what we had today was released as the base game i think it would have been a bigger hit and sold multioles more. If the fall update is a slam dunk from bungie i think they game could make a big splash next year.

Sorry to bring up a topic that is borderline stupid to begin with but I thought it would be good to share this article.

I ignored Division when it came out and this year, around January I picked it up, because youtube was full of re-reviews of it and all very positive.
Very glad I did, sank like 200h+ in to it and had a blast. These games as service can really shine and kudos to developer not abandoning this game and actually fixing it.
If anyone can pick it up on sale I would highly suggest it. One of the best 30eu I ever spent for full game and season pass.

The problem with ubisoft is they pretty much always release their games in a bugged/unfinished/broken state, and by the time they actually fix/finish it, they are already advertising the sequel

Not the only problem though. Can I interest you in the Ultimate edition? How bout the Ultimate edition plus+? Both well worth the money. Why buy another console when you can spend the same amount on a bunch of tat? Plus it comes with an exclusive escort and eavesdropping mission!

But if you realllly want to experience what its like to be a Ninja/pirate/assassin/murderer you should get the OMG I just stepped on a piece of lego edition. Thats the best one.

Anyone recommend a gaming chair similar to the Corsair T1 but for half the price! Max budget is €150.
