Fair play to Pat etc. and all his satisfied customers who are prepared to fork out €90 for a 50ml bottle of aftershave. But I don't know if it really represents great value in terms of a bargain ? Even when I was really flush with cash and at my most insecure :-{ (about a decade ago)... I think my limit was about €70 for a 100ml bottle

But this below thread is what I call a bargain. (Filled my boots from Boots (pun) with this last year, its actually lovely stuff and still have a couple of bottles left)

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057630152

I think there is room for bargains on higher price items like this on the forum.

Like I could see an in mass order of a lot of people at 50 euro a bottle including delivery. But for something like that there needs to be a list of like 50 or more likely a 100 people instead of his usual 10 at a time.

Also can a one person operation ever cater to that sort of scale and margin? Likely not and perhaps unreasonable to expect it. So it's more likely to remain a high end shoppers bargain rather than a mass scale bargain like you refer to.

    Ha!

I've given away 3 bottles of that since I started dealing with Pat.

I've also given my 3/4 full bottle of Boss Bottled to the brother in law.

Once you go Pat, you'll have no nose for tat!

What Pat is selling is very much a bargain.I know its not the usual thing you see in BA but it still represents huge savings to the people who are interested in high end fragrances.

To be pedantic, if you're looking at Aventus, it's €82.50 delivered, and €70 collected (was €62 until the other day, but I've had to start ordering from another supplier to ensure stock availability). The idea isn't really to offer top end stuff for €6.50 (or whatever), but to offer niche / high end stuff for similar prices to 'everyday' designer fragrances - i.e. pay Paco Rabanne prices, but get Creed juice. It's not going to suit everyone - hell, one my most versatile frags is a €6 bottle of Lynx Tobacco & Amber - but it offers additional choice to people (well, males mostly!). Something I'm introducing is the concept of seasonality and / or different occasions - i.e. instead of a 'one size fits all' bottle of juice, having different stuff for different occasions or different times of year. Plenty of people will be happy with their single bottle of *whatever* and that's just fine - I wouldn't look down on anyone for it - horses for courses y'know? And of course it's not going to be a priority for many people, nor should it be if their income has better things to be spent on - fragrances are a luxury, not a necessity! But give me the choice between wearing, say, Spicebomb, or spending the same on Aventus? I know what I'll be rocking!

I can tell you that €50 incl delivery is well below my cost price so won't be happening I'm afraid! (I really should charge more - last I looked there was a guy flogging 50ml Aventus (in crappy bottles) for €100 on Adverts!).

You'd be surprised - the largest part of this whole operation is responding to emails, PMs and posts - takes a few hours a day. Once in a routine, splitting etc doesn't take that long - it's all in the prep.

Guys and gals, not every bargain posted is suited for everyone, so while it might not be to your taste or even to your budget to others it might be.
I say that as someone who hadnt tried some of the scents I bought from Pat previously, but I just wanted to have them. And as such I bought more this time around.
If you dont think its a bargain, thats ok.

Your cost price might come price might come down for bigger quantities. But 50 was just a number that I think would get traction at scale.

Sometimes people self-organize for the best bargains on here I find. Things like the Spotify thread are the best examples of that. So might reduce the effort on the emails, PM's and posts making a lower price point possible and worthwhile.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2057655713

Anyway, just a suggestion. You do by the sounds of it high-quality work so I appreciate that from any profession. :)

    These websites are worth trying if you are looking to make some savings ;

    https://www.perfume-click.ie/

    http://www.allbeauty.com/
    Also ebay
    http://stores.ebay.ie/Online-Beauty-Buys

For the record I know the industry inside out. The same company that makes Beyoncé perfume makes Marc Jacobs. It's all a con. It's all about the bottle/ perception of quality. Try Equivilenza they have some stores around Ireland and can make any fragrance and they are identical.
Trust me it costs no more to make any fragrance it's elitist bull****.
I love fragrances but why pay more don't be a fool to fill someone elses pockets.
The main companies producing 90% of the main branded fragrances are Coty, L'Oréal, Inter Parfums, Estee Lauder and Shiseido.
    Have a look at this it's good reading to know who owns what;
    https://thebeautygypsy.com/who-owns-what-beauty-industry/

    http://uk.businessinsider.com/companies-beauty-brands-connected-2017-5?r=US&IR=T

Try Fragonard online they deliver to Ireland and have some really nice fragrances not too expensive.
    https://www.fragonard.com/en/

Ps my current favourite fragrances are Bottega Veneta EDP Homme (In Brown Thomas but made by ? You guessed it Coty) All coming from the same factory and Fragonard "F !" and Fragonard Mini Beau Gosse

Not sure where the savings are there (some of the websites you quoted won't load in work so i don't have full information) v Pat's op

    Take for example

    http://www.allbeauty.com/ie/en/brands/creed/

    Aventus for Her

Special offer €179.35 delivered which is €2.39 a ml. Ok for the 50 ml it's €119,50 if Pat can fill the bottle. Fair enough you do get the Creed bottle with it

Get an offer off Pat even delivered which is €87.50 and €1.7s a ml in Pat's high quality bottles

Green Irish Tweed 30ml for 111.25. Pat 50 ml €82.50 delivered

In fairness that is a good site for some whole bottles and Pat might be able to make some savings there.

I got two Serge Lutens split off Pat but the whole bottle price there seems to be very good

The main point I would be making is that it's possible to get identical fragrances at somewhere like Equivelenza (50ml EDP for about 35 Euro)identical to whatever you are after they have lists instore and there are also savings to be made online on those websites should you go that route and want the bottle. It's not rocket science to make an exact copy of a fragrance. You just can't use the brand identity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,053 ✭✭✭KrustyUCC

Ah ok that's fair enough and I get your point

    Are they identical though?

Granted they may smell the same, but what's the longevity, etc. like?

Any idea of the best Creed Aventus clone?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,595 ✭✭✭Padraig Mor

Re clones etc: as a cheapskate who has bought clones and would have no problem buying a good one, frankly I don't buy it. Sure, some I've smelled have been similar to their 'inspirations', but as to exactly the same - no! Maybe 70%.....80% at a push. Exactly the same? No way.

I can't claim to have smelt them all, but as someone who has smelt more Aventus than most, I find Mancera's Cedrat Boise to be very close but I don't think it's meant to be a clone, and I wouldn't call it 'cheap' either....

  • Registered Users Posts: 544 ✭✭✭looperman1000

On Equivalenza? They aint bad...smell quite close...but for me...i have purchased a few bottles from them...the longevity just isn't there.

On an Aventus clone...i picked up one of these recently:
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Armaf-Club-INTENSE-Toilette-105ml/dp/B00M3IFUMK/ref=sr_1_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1508537356&sr=8-1&keywords=club+de+nuit

There are heaps of forums posts on this vs Aventus around the web. Have to say its really really good. Did a blind smell test with a friend and he thought it was aventus...and aventus was the clone! :D

I am now a regular purchaser from Pat. His scents are top notch and i would never in a million years have the money to buy the amount i have from a top department store and in the smaller quantities that i get them in. They just don't sell them in smaller quantities unfortunately.

    Just my tuppence....

Fine Accoutrements are an American brand that produce a range of budget aftershaves.

There are 9 scents in the range and all of them are based on/inspired by premium fragrances.

I have all 9 and one of my favourites is "Platinum" which is "inspired by" Aventus.

I've ordered Aventus off Padraig Mor so it will be interesting to compare the original to the Fine version.

If you scroll down the page below you'll get the scent descriptions which show which fragrances inspired which after shave.

Thats what I did last Sunday, I ordered the Platinum by fine accoutrements via address pal to my local post office, I was totally surprised to find it there 4 days later on Thursday. I tried to order it via parcel wizard first but it wouldn't let me but no probs with address pal

In regards the smell, I dunno. At first when I smelt it out of the bottle I was like omg this is really nice but after i put it on for 2 days I'm not sure, I'm leaning back to my Fahrenheit lol I'm gonna grab a bottle of tom ford men soon, and tempted to grab some creed aventus from pat over on the other thread. I'm not ditching the platinum just yet I'll give it a few more days and see if I can get used to it.

Edit: I purchased it from amazon - the english shaving company is the name of the place £17 for 100ml

Ordered a bottle just there. 27 pounds plus the 3.95 for parcel motel for the 105 ml. Hopefully, it works out. :)

I have another few that are worth mentioning as they are cheaper, Al Dur Al Maknoon Silver from Lattafa, Urban Elements Marble by Next and Perfumer's Choice No.9 by Victor from Milton Lloyd. However I did layer these with a couple of sprays of a generic iso e super. You will get people asking you what you are wearing and compliments from all these.

Curiousity got the better of me.
I Received Armaf Club De Nuit Intense Man today. Have to say for 30.75 I’m well impressed. It’s very strong so go easy on the sprays but I’m happy with the scent. It’s not creed however. It’s similar but with more zing. It’s like more lemony or more pineapple-y. Like I mentioned it’s strong. I only spread twice one each side but I feel light headed as it’s still quite strong. I’ve ordered a bottle off Pat and will compare. I am confident that’s pats will be nicer on the nose

It is fairly strong. And it will blow people away if you overspray the stuff. Of course Aventus will be superior but it's also a vastly superior price!

Agreed! I am happy with it. I sprayed it this morning and I’ve worked and done a session in the gym. Worst case scenario il use it as an everyday/afte gym spray
    Cheers for the recommendation
