I am getting an Oculus Rift and want to buy a laptop for it as I'll be using it for work as well and need to be able to transport it around.

I've been given a suggested spec of the following 15.6" one: https://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/saved-configurations/proteusIV-15/7JkTYwBsa3/

but I'll upgrade the RAM on mine to 16GB.

Firstly, is the spec good for at least a year or so?

Secondly, is there anywhere else I should look at other than pcspecialist.co.uk for good deals?

Budget is around €1,500 inc VAT.

    Thanks!

    Separate work & play IMHO

E.g. for €950 you can have a gaming setup hooked to your TV:
    https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/8dsZM8

That leaves you with €550 to buy a Chromebook, or a used Thinkpad/Dell Latitude which will be used for work AND ONLY work (and will be so nondescript that noone would ever want to steal it).

    For pre-builts, try Dell.ie or Elara.ie.

Nah I want an all-in-wonder as I'll be working remotely for a few months at a time and toting the vr with me in the carry-on :)

    So no desktop thanks.

Reckon pcspecialist deal can be bettered?

Also think about how cool it is that you can literally take VR with you anywhere.

Bring your laptop and rift out to the middle of a field in Leitrim and play Superhot while the cows look on in wonder.. for 5 mins before the battery dies that is ;)

The only other choice I could find is the ASUS ROG Strix GL502VM-FY173T, but that's with an i5 CPU & GTX 1060 3Gb.
However, it does have a 120Hz G-Sync panel which for £999 is amazing.

    Cheers, will consider it.

Not sure if the screen is too important as I mainly game via VR so power in the box is probably more important.
Can't game any other way now really.

When I'm working I'll need it to extend to two external monitors. Do I need an adaptor for this or does the GTX 1060 Graphics Card have two HDMI-outs?

there seems to be a newer version of that laptop for extra £200

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/ASUS-GL502VM-FY497T-15-6-inch-Gaming-Titanium/dp/B073WZGH69/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

Comes with 8GB RAM, but I'm assuming that can be upgraded to 16GB later if I needed?

Not sure what difference is (thought it was an i7 but appears to be i5 too)

Curious if this HP one is better? It's £999 with a discount code (on HUKD)

I wouldn't buy that HP Omen; it only has a single 1Tb HDD while the other options have an SSD as well. AFAIK they are nearly impossible to open for maintenance, too.

The "updated" ASUS GL502VM-FY497T you posted isn't technically newer, but it does have a GTX 1060 6Gb along with a SSD+HDD setup, and G-Sync.

So it's between that or the PCSpecialist.

Hi, what system did you go for? I have the Inspiron 15 7577 but doesn't work with Oculus :( so might send it back and get something else.

Went for a 1070GTX MSI laptop with similar specs to one I posted before.

It's frankly superb. Power out of this thing is immense and it even runs a few hours on battery alone when I need it to.

Lots of comments on how it looks too. Love that LED keyboard :)
