What a stunning day. It is days like this that make me love the Autumn. Though I'm hearing that Maria is likely to hit hard at the weekend. Local guy saying that he heard that the winds could gust to hurricane force.

According to statistics on Yesterday's Weather page on the Met.ie site, sunshine wasn't that abundant yesterday as people are describing here.

Stunning day again today, got up to 19.3C here near Tralee.

Back in Killarney again today and took another shot of Lough Leane late morning.

Well it was here and today was great too but it did cloud in a bit in the mid to late afternoon.
It was foggy at first this morning but it cleared very early.
    Still feels very mild.

Of course that's a very limited number of stations, not that well distributed around the country so with Ireland's variety, you really can't tell the weather just a few miles away where it could be blazing down with sunshine compared to me under a big blanket of cloud.

Today though was blissfully gorgeous here. No fog for me.

Looking like there could be a fair wallop of rain for the country on Wednesday, but more especially for the south and southeast. What is interesting though, is that high daily rainfall totals at this time of year seem to come very similar set ups.

Back in September 2009, over 100mm fell in places in a 24 hour period from this set up.

    OFVeEWB.png

Note the similar set up back in October 2011, when up to and over 80mm fell in places in a 24hr period:

    SZojK6H.png

Note the relatively similar set ups of both synoptics. Front coming up against a euro block, tightening the southerly gradient ahead of the front, while at the same time slackening the gradient on the west side of the front. Both these charts are pretty similar as to what will occur on Wed over Ireland, except that the frontal zones are likely to move through relatively quicker this time, leading to less impressive rainfall totals overall. Still, what is interesting, to me at least, is that this set up seems to occur almost exclusively in the Autumn months.

    Latest 18z GFS run

Showing heavy rain for lots of areas but especially heavy rain in Cork, Clare, Tipperary and Galway. Met Eireann gives the criteria for yellow warning as 25 to 40 mm in 12 hrs and for an Orange warning 40 to 50 mm in 12 hrs. The GFS would suggest widespread yellow warning and very close to an orange warning for some counties I would think.

The HIRLAM keeping the highest rainfall to the W, SW. Showing a possible Orange warning for Kerry 40 -50 mm in 12 hrs and up to 50 -60 mm on coastal areas in 12 hrs or there abouts.

Looks and feels tropical here at the moment with semi-convective cloud/alto-cumulus and vivid sunshine. Very summery.

Generally I think it's unnecessary as there's not that much discussion to be had, they're not uncommon events, however I suppose it's up to people's discretion.

Jesus, we were having a nice few dry days there and then I see this. Back to the slop just as things were beginning to dry up. Is there no end to this dumping from the Atlantic?

today was another beautiful day, 3 days in a row of almost unbroken blue skies and warm sunshine, it's been a long time since we've had that and sadly that is probably it till next Summer. Autumn will be very obvious from tomorrow onwards.
