How to move from US to Ireland?

Hello,

I hope this is the right place for this question.

A couple of months ago I meet a group of girls from the US just finished college and starting round the world trip. They dated with me a few days to sort out lost luggage and lost credit cards. They've stayed in contact and one of them had asked me about coming back to Ireland to live here.

I've Googled this but I can't figure out exactly what the process is.

Would she have to return to the US first to apply for a job or permits?? Or can she just come straight back here, fill out whatever forms and look for a job?

As I said above I Googled it and didn't find the answers. This means I actually looked into before coming here. And obviously at that hour I couldn't phone the relevant places.

So I posted here hoping get some information to start with.

That is one of the points of a discussion forum.

The response of "go look for information somewhere else" is neither helpful to people asking questions nor a healthy use of your time.

Thank you. I had been through that page myself before posting but I couldn't see anything about whether a person can apply in Ireland or have to go back to their own country first.

And then the linked page, it seems USA citizens don't need a visa to enter, so don't need to exit and return.
But if they want to stay longer than 3 months, need to register etc

It says 8 weeks, but expect it to take longer. It's better if she has a job lined up, rather than hoping to just get something when she gets here. She can apply from the US or from Ireland, but if she's here on a tourist stamp, she's only supposed to be in the country for three months and not seeking work as far as I know, so it'll look better if the application is sent from the US.

The working holiday scheme is probably her best bet. It gives her a year here and doesn't need to have a job lined up. she will need to leave the country though to get the right stamps etc. http://www.inis.gov.ie/en/INIS/Pages/Working%20Holidays%20in%20Ireland%20(except%20Taiwan)

Realistically, what job can a kid just out of college do that no one else in all of the EU can do?

Id say she has zero chance.

Thank you. I was trying to ring Citizens Information but keep getting put on hold for ages. I had also read that page but I had overlooked the link you mentioned. This good information to start with and I'll pass it on.

The group was only in here for a couple of weeks - doing the same in other countries on their trip. They are in Poland now (I think). I pass the link on.

I honestly don't know how long she wants to stay but it seems certain that she'd rather not go back to the US first.

I don't know - whatever career she studied for I suppose.

We are all up against "everyone else in the EU" so should we all just give up on applying for jobs?
